Position Summary: The Area Superintendent is responsible for providing support to schools and administrators in order to improve student performance. The incumbent ensures the effective operation and instructional efficiency of schools within assigned clusters by developing, managing, evaluating, and supporting all resources essential to increasing student achievement. The Area Superintendent seeks opportunities to increase instructional leadership capacity in building leaders as well as seeks opportunities to ensure continuous improvement of the schools and student performance. Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience calculations from the Non-Teaching Salary Schedule B-235, Executive Scale, Step 1 - Step 9.

- Provides support and guidance to school leadershipProvides leadership, direction, support and accountability to principals to ensure that instructional and curricular programs are fully and appropriately implemented and evaluated in all assigned schools as aligned to the District Strategic Support ModelSupervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of principals for all assigned clusters based on school performance, academic growth and operations managementProvides professional and leadership development to principals and leadership teams in alignment with the District comprehensive Leadership Development programDrives the principal selection process by screening and interviewing selected applicantsReviews and discusses teachers/staff performance with principalsSupervises curriculum and instructional programs of schoolsSupervises principals in analyzing school achievement data and to discuss implications for curriculum and instructional needsSupervises principals in evaluating classroom implementation of state content standards and curriculum frameworksMonitors the quality of District instructional programs; develops, implements, monitors and evaluates site educational plansEnsures implementation of federal, state, and local mandated programs in relation to school site instructional and operational programsBuilds instructional coherence in the DistrictServes as the liaison and communicates with all stakeholdersInitiates and maintains ongoing and effective communication with community and parents regarding student achievement and school programs; Supports school-based parent outreach programs and strategies to engage parents in student learningActs as an advocate for assigned schoolsOversees the management and response to parent complaints and participates in parent meetingsSupports the alignment of functions between schools and central office divisionsParticipates in District meetings, committees and interaction with the Board of EducationProvides Board Members frequent updated on assigned schools and works collaboratively with Board Members and District leadership to help resolve community issues as they ariseProvides support and evaluation of District strategic plans and budgetsDevelops plans to support and execute District strategic objectivesReviews strategic plans and monitors progress towards goals and evaluates the achievement of set goalsReviews, approves, and monitors the development and implementation of school site budgets, Title One, and Student Fund Activity to ensure effective use of allocated funds within approved budgetAdministers the curriculum and instruction budget and ensures that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudentlyWorks with various committees to review school's staffing allocations and forecasted enrollmentsBuilds a Winning TeamMeets regularly with key personnel throughout the District to ensure that proper information flows through leadership, including establishing goals, objectives and long range plansCoaches and builds capacity in order to ensure the success of principals and school leadershipAdvocates change within schools and across the DistrictCollaborates with peers to develop a consistent approach for cultivating a successful teamPerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

- Master's Degree in Education, Educational Administration or related required
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in Education, Educational Administration, or related field requiredMinimum 3 years of experience as a Principal requiredExperience in more than one grade school level (i.e. elementary, middle, high school) preferred
Certification:
- Must hold or be eligible for a provisional or clear renewable Leadership Certificate
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of instructional methodologies, strategies, and assessment instrumentsKnowledge of school and school district policies and practicesAbility to solve complex community issues in partnership with othersMust be able to successfully manage multiple tasks and responsibilitiesAbility to develop, implement, and monitor budgetsExcellent verbal and written communications skillsProficient in Microsoft Office
