MISSION
YouthBuild Public Charter School (YouthBuild PCS) is an alternative high school for young people seeking to transform their lives by re-engaging in their education in a non-traditional school environment. YouthBuild PCS prepares students for post-secondary education and the workplace by offering, in English and Spanish, academic, vocational and workforce development programs. YBPCS believes that service to the community is an essential part of the transformative process. Therefore, students serve their community through volunteer projects and by creating housing for low-income residents in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Operations at YouthBuild PCS is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the day-to-day business operations of the school. The Director of Operations oversees all operational processes and functions for YouthBuild including finance, human resource management, student recruitment and enrollment, compliance monitoring and reporting, facilities maintenance, security, IT support, and outsourcing management.

Finance

  • Oversee an outsourced accounting vendor and have executive ownership of all financial processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly close, payroll, general accounting functions, annual audit, grant reporting, and regulatory reporting
  • Oversee annual budget planning process
  • Manage school budget within Board-approved financial parameters and keeping the Board informed of progress relative to those goals by reviewing monthly financial reports prepared by outside vendor to ensure organization hits financial targets and to adjust when mid-year variances are detected
  • Oversee asset management, including inventories of fixed assets

Student Recruitment and Enrollment

  • Oversee student recruitment efforts
  • Responsible for YouthBuild achieving full enrollment each year
  • Ensure student information is collected in a timely manner to satisfy all external constituencies and student data is protected

Facilities

  • Oversee all functions related to the physical plant, school property, and school equipment to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Manage all facilities-related contractors and service providers including custodial staff and all custodial contracts to ensure that school building is clean and well- maintained

Safety & Security

  • Ensure that appropriate safety and security procedures are established and followed
  • Coordinate fire, evacuation, and crisis drills with the Head of School
  • Coordinate with school leadership to manage reporting and remediation of all safety-related incidents

Information Technology and Reporting

  • Ensure the ongoing maintenance and updating of information systems and infrastructure, including hardware, software and applications
  • Oversee external IT vendors
  • Oversee data analyst to ensure reporting internally and externally is streamlined and accurate

Human Resources

  • Ensure development of process descriptions and job descriptions throughout the organization and ensure the School’s performance management process is running smoothly
  • Ensure the development and annual updating of a Strategic or School Improvement Plan. Report regularly to Board on progress against the implementation of that plan
  • Oversee benefits plans including managing the employee benefits brokers and ensuring all employee issues are resolved promptly

Development and Communications

  • Manage fundraising activities including completion of grant applications and grant reporting as well as donor cultivation
  • Coordinate Board relations and communication, including preparation of Board meeting materials
  • Oversee YouthBuild PCS communications, including marketing, Website, and social media functions. Ensure that communications are timely, accurate, and engaging, and reflect the YouthBuild PCS mission

Compliance

  • Oversee the relationship with the DC Public Charter School Board and staff and other regulatory agencies such as the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, including the compliance and performance monitoring and reporting functions
  • Ensure school-wide compliance with health and safety laws, charter contracts, state education mandates (including staff fingerprinting), teacher certification, NCLB requirements, and all federal and state workplace regulations

QUALIFICATIONS 
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or master’s degree in related field preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage business systems and processes to support a multi-million dollar organization, ideally in a senior leadership role for at least three years
  • Demonstrated comfort in IT management
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills
  • Exceptional ability to multitask
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan strategically
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate well with diverse constituents and staff
  • Excellent people manager
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding decisions involving system structures
  • Commitment to accountability and data-driven decision making.
