Job Description:
This is a new position for the 2018 - 2019 School Year. It will be full-time (1.0 FTE) split between:
- Teacher - Students with Visual Impairments: 24 hours a week (0.6 FTE) and
- Teacher - Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist: 16 hours a week (0.4 FTE)

Position Specific Information (if Applicable): SPED Teacher - Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist
Responsible for interpreting, communicating and monitoring student needs to develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for providing systematic orientation to and safe movement in school, home, and community environments. Responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, assessment and specialized instruction for blind and visually impaired students between the ages of birth and 21 as related to their orientation and mobility. Supports growth and development in the least restrictive environment, close achievement gaps, and prepare diverse student populations for post secondary and workforce success.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and manage scheduling of multidisciplinary team meetings for students with visual impairments including blindness on assigned caseload.
• Responsible for all IEP related tasks and paperwork for compliance for assigned caseload.
• Maintain student special education records for assigned caseload.
• Identify, coordinate, schedule, administer orientation and mobility assessment, and communicate and summarize results, including how the student's vision disability impacts the student's mobility.
• Deliver orientation and mobility services as outlined in students' IEPs, including progress monitoring student progress toward identified orientation and mobility goals.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, other professionals, and parents to develop meaningful IEP goals based on identified needs of individual students.
• Manage and support vision assistive technology for students and educators, including GPS systems.
• Train vision educational assistants, teachers, or other identified school personnel to work with students with visual impairments including sighted guide and cane travel expectations.
• Log service hours for Medicaid students using ezEdMed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Certifications:
Special Education: Teacher of the Visually Impaired - Colorado Department of Education

Special Provider License: Orientation and Mobility - Colorado Department of Education

Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED - American Red Cross

Minimum Starting Rate:
(Based off a full-time FTE; if applicable, part time salaries will be prorated)

$43,000.00 USD Annually

Maximum Starting Rate:
(Based off a full-time FTE; if applicable, part time salaries will be prorated)

$64,500.00 USD Annually

SPED Teacher - Students with Visual Impairments
Responsible for the development, implementation coordination, assessment and specialized instruction for blind and visually impaired students between the ages of birth and 21. Interprets, communicates and monitors needs to develop a plan (IEP) to facilitate access to the general curriculum and provide modifications or adaptations to the curriculum as appropriate.

Responsibilities:
• Deliver vision related services outlined in individual student plans.
• Manage and support vision assistive technology for students and educators.
• Train vision educational assistants and teachers or other appropriate personnel to work with the students with visual impairments.
• TVIs work in multiple sites and must be able to travel to the various locations as needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Unified English Braille.
• TVI in Douglas County Schools is an itinerant position requiring travel within the district.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
• Coordinate and manage timelines for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which may include coordinating, scheduling, and facilitating multidisciplinary team meetings for students with visual impairments including blindness on assigned caseload.
• Responsible for all IEP related tasks and paperwork for compliance for assigned caseload.
• Maintain student special education records for assigned caseload.
• Identify, coordinate, schedule, administer functional vision assessment and learning media assessments and communicate and summarize results. This process may include reviewing/considering vision reports/assessment information from outside providers.
• Collect relevant data to monitor student progress.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, other professionals and parents to identify and determine student programming needs.

Certifications: Certificate of Competency in reading and writing Unified English Braille from CDE according to the standards established for implementation of the Exceptional Children's Educational Act - Colorado Department of Education, Special Education Specialist - Visually Impaired - Colorado Department of Education
