QUALIFICATIONS:

Appropriate PA teacher certification.

BA required in appropriate major study, Masters preferred but not required.

Must be able to organize a classroom to deliver the School District of Lancaster Art

Strong communication and motivational skills.

Ability to effectively communicate with, instruct, and work with students, staff and parents.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SUPERVISES: Not applicable

JOB GOAL: To ensure that each student will think critically, communicate effectively, understand cultural heritage and diversity, respect human dignity and be responsible to self and community and become a contributing member of society.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Create art by using various 2D and 3D media. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of art history. Write and demonstrate an appropriate knowledge of aesthetics art.

Provide exhibition opportunities for students.

Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

Maintain good classroom organization, management and discipline.

Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress in order to provide instruction to ensure continuous student growth.

Provide School District of Lancaster Art Program for each student in conjunction with the goals of the Strategic Plan.

Demonstrate appropriate planning, the use of a variety of instructional techniques and strategies, and the incorporation of technology where possible to supplement instruction.

Maintain student records including all required paperwork.

Communicate regularly with parents and be available for educational purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

Pursue ongoing professional growth opportunities.

Plan purposeful assignments for volunteer(s).

Attend staff meetings, and department meetings and

Serve on building and District committees as required.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintain art supply inventory.

Participate in District art functions.

EVALUATION: Evaluation will be determined according to the District's Professional Evaluation Plan – Observation/Supervision/Evaluation Plan.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

Physical Demands:

Sitting 1% of the time, and 99% moving, standing and walking.

Occasional kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping, and squatting.

Lifting up to 50 lbs.

Ability to climb stairs.

Appropriately maintain classroom.

Normal/corrected vision (cannot be color blind).

Visual acuity to read correspondence.

Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

Normal/corrected hearing.

Temperament:

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Must be flexible and have a positive attitude, cooperative spirit, and sensitivity in relating to student, staff, parents, and community.

Mental Demands:

Ability to interpret detailed written and verbal communications.

Ability to perform basic math skills.

Frequently fast-paced, high-pressure situation.

Environment:

Normal art room environment, and various exhibition environments including outdoors.

Aware of proper handling of toxic art materials.
