POSITION: School Psychologist

LOCATION: Kent County Community School

REPORTS TO: Principal

STARTING DATE: August 2018

The primary responsibility of the KCCS/DAP psychologist is to work with staff and students with Autism and low incidence disabilities (i.e., Moderate to Severe Intellectual Disability, Traumatic Brain Injury, Deaf-Blind, Medically Complex, etc.) to develop, nurture and maintain procedures that will enhance the educational and social opportunities of the students assigned to those classrooms. In addition to working with staff and students the psychologist works with the diagnostic team to evaluate and identify student needs and to provide ongoing assistance in strategy implementation and data collection. Some basic responsibilities are as follows:
  • Attend bi-weekly meetings to discuss students with diagnostic team and teachers.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations (includes observation, testing, reporting, interpreting) for new students and students due for a triennial evaluation.
  • Interpret data and diagnoses to school personnel, families, and students (as appropriate).
  • Work with teachers and students in the classroom to observe behavior, collect data, revise procedures, etc. This should be done seamlessly while working with students on academic and social skills.
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and assist in developing Behavior Support/Intervention Plans.
  • Train staff on logistics of Behavior Support/Intervention Plans. Communicate to transportation regarding services as needed.
  • Use data and research to assist in determining when and which supports, accommodations, and/or modifications students need to be successful in educational settings.
  • Consult and collaborate with, support, and/or coach individual or teams of teachers/school personnel regarding classroom management, individual student needs, data collection.
  • Participate in the development of individual programs for students. The programs should work to help students acquire self-help, academic, communication, vocational and community skills.
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling as needed.
  • Consult and coordinate with outside agencies (e.g. Terry Center, Child Inc., Child Mental Health, private medical and psychiatric services, etc.) as needed.
  • Serve as a member of building Crisis Team, and provide crisis-related social-emotional and behavioral support, including participation in risk and threat assessments.
  • Report behavioral data analysis and progress to appropriate entities.
  • Participate in and provide building/district professional development.
  • Attend monthly psychologist meetings.
  • Attend monthly DAP leadership meetings.
  • Other responsibilities as requested by supervisor.

Qualification:
  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a State of Delaware Certificate for School Psychologist.
  • Experience as a School Psychologist preferred.

  • Favorable Criminal Background Check for the candidate who is offered employment.
