POSITION IS FOR THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR 
 

Responsible for coordinating, managing, developing, implementing, and monitoring curriculum and instruction for secondary literacy instructional area throughout the division.  Complex work is performed within specific regulations, departmental objectives and policies; employee plans own work and coordinates with others as necessary.  Contacts are regularly and frequently made at all organizational levels within and outside the department to explain and implement programs and policies; professional judgment is required. 

Essential Job Functions:
  • Manages the specified instructional area program through planning staff development opportunities, coordinating school and community events, facilitating curriculum development by monitoring and guiding program direction and supporting teachers, administrators, as well as parents, as the specified instructional area professional resource person.
  • Supports with database management.
  • Facilitates curriculum development for the specified instructional area; coordinates the proposed curriculum through the approval process; monitors curriculum program implementation throughout the county; develops guidelines for program and materials implementation.
  • Visits classrooms for teaching support and consultation; monitors instructional program in the schools; conducts routine evaluations of the effectiveness of specified instructional area instruction programs; provides communications to teachers.
  • Coordinates mandated programs by and serves as liaison to State Department of Education and other education organizations; ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Plans summer school courses and coordinates the purchasing of supplies for all summer school programs.
  • Serves as professional resource for teachers, school administrators and other instructional personnel.  Assists in the selection process for teachers, provides orientation on instructional goals for newly appointed teachers. Recommends subject area staff development for administrators and teachers; recommends licensure renewal opportunities.
  • Assists in the development of the budget and the monitoring of expenditures; ensures compliance with financial management guidelines and requirements.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility :
Responsible for management of budget for designated programs.

Report Preparation :
May be responsible to write reports relevant to job duties and responsibilities.

Equipment Operation :
Proficient in the use of computer and general office equipment 

Contacts :
Contact with all levels of CCPS personnel and various outside agencies.

Work Direction :
Provides work direction to secretaries and liaisons.

Supervision :
Assist with the selection of full and part-time instructional staff, performance evaluation and disciplinary actions.

Decision Making :
High level of independent decision making is required.

Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities
May provide input or recommendations related to policy changes.

Work Environment :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a school or office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :
Considerable knowledge of the concepts, principals and methodologies of instruction; instructional program planning; child growth and development, group dynamics and of related state and federal regulations.  Considerable knowledge of academic curriculum for assigned classes.  Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulations; plan, organize and administer work and provide direction and evaluate a diversified professional staff.  Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals; design and deliver instruction and assess students' learning.  Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, long-range planning and forecasting and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Requirements: Requirements :
Must hold a valid Virginia teaching license with endorsements in English and Administration and Supervision.  Must have teaching experience and/or any equivalent experience or training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid VA Driver's License. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
