  • Behavior Specialist & Coordinator, Part-time (.475 FTE), 19 hours per week for the 2018-2019 school year
    • Master's Degree (required) in School Psychology or a related field, including six to nine credits in the Applied Behavior Sciences and specialized training in managing aggressive and noncompliant behavior
    • Requires Arizona Certification as a School Psychologist, School Social Worker, Guidance Counselor, or Speech-Language Pathologist with the specialized training indicated in this job description
    • Position requires a minimum of three years of work experience in Education and/or Mental Health

    To work with Elementary, Middle and High School students under the general supervision of the Director of Special Services.

    SUMMARY
    The Behavioral Specialist Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the district program to support students' social/emotional skill development. The Behavior Specialist Coordinator is responsible for conducting indirect and direct assessment of behaviors to develop social/emotional support programs, individualized behavior support plans, and Functional Behavior Assessments. The Behavior Specialist Coordinator is responsible for providing consultation and training to others in the use of behavioral intervention strategies. The Behavioral Specialist Coordinator is also responsible for the implementation of plans developed by IEP teams in conjunction with the school psychologists and/or behavior analyst. The Behavior Specialist Coordinator will collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to provide educational opportunities for students with social/emotional/behavioral needs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Maintains, evaluates, and improves the district social/emotional program
    • Conducts indirect assessments to identify targets for behavior change and obtain information that directs further assessment
    • Conduct direct assessments and analyze data to assist in developing Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence tables and complete Functional Behavior Assessments
    • Assist in developing data collection materials for assessment purposes
    • Assist in developing behavior intervention plans using strategies that support identified functions of behavior and established hypotheses
    • Provide consultation to Student Study Teams and Child Study Teams regarding behavior intervention strategies
    • Attend Student Study Team meetings, as requested, and Child Study Team meetings for assigned caseload, or as requested by supervisor
    • Participates in team meetings or attends other meetings as appropriate, or as requested by supervisor
    • Conduct on-site and off-site training to staff on how to implement strategies outlined in the Functional Behavior Assessment
    • Participate in follow up Functional Behavior Assessment trainings when necessary, or as requested by supervisor
    • Completes all training required to uphold certification, or as requested by supervisor
    • Submit completed Functional Behavior Assessments to supervisor for review
    • Complete any materials associated with the strategies outlined in the Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans, and provide to Student Study and Child Study teams
    • Supports teachers of students with social/emotional needs, and provides appropriate professional development and support
    • Assists school administrators, teachers, and other staff in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans
    • Communicates with the parents of students with social/emotional needs
    • Completes progress reports using Synergy SE for students with social/emotional goals developed and monitored by the Behavior Specialist Coordinator
    • Maintains adherence to schedule approved by supervisor, as applicable to position. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that may include late afternoon/early evenings for appropriate delivery of services and attendance at necessary meetings and trainings.

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS :
    Education & Experience:
    • Master's Degree (required) in school psychology or a related field, including six to nine units in the Applied Behavior Sciences, specialized training in managing aggressive and noncompliant behavior.
    • Minimum of three years of work experience in education and/or mental health.
    • Certification as a School Psychologist, School Social Worker, Guidance Counselor, or Speech-Language Pathologist with the specialized training indicated in this job description.
    • Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
    • Thorough knowledge of federal and state special education laws.
    • Thorough understanding of inclusive education and differentiated instruction.
    • Must possess understanding of behavior management techniques and methods.
    • Requires the ability to work with teachers, parents, coaches, sponsors, and students in a variety of situations and work effectively in a team-oriented school.
    • Must possess the ability to identify professional development strategies that will positively impact teachers' professional growth and student achievement.
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and respectfully with staff, parents, and students from diverse backgrounds.
    Computer Proficiency: Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint & Word, and specialized IEP software.

    Works indoors - classroom environment. Outdoors - playground, exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures. Exposure to noise, dust and fumes. Extensive contact with students, parents and teachers.
