Job Summary:
  • Provide instruction in Spanish and English to students by serving as the teacher with specific responsibility for developing students' ability to effectively perform courses of study in both English and Spanish languages. Supervise students within the classroom and other assigned areas. Develop lesson plans and deliver group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines. Create an engaging class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. Establish effective rapport with students. Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed for college and career readiness. Collaborate with other personnel, including teachers, special service providers, and administrators. Respond to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.
Description:
  • Provide instruction in English and Spanish for the purpose of achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through defined lesson plans in the areas of reading, writing, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science and citizenship. Ensure that content is taught in accordance with federal/state law and by utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Prepare a variety of written materials in both English and Spanish (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating academic and social growth, documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Translate lesson plans into learning experiences that best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Monitor and supervise students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of identifying student needs, addressing health, attitude and learning problems, improving the overall quality of student outcomes, and achieving established classroom objectives. Communicate clearly in verbal and written formats with students, parents and teammates.
  • Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress through conferences and other means for the purpose of communicating expectations, sharing the student's achievements, and developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. Participate in curriculum development, staff committees and sponsorship of student activities as required.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Administer tests and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating students' language ability. Administer standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
  • Participate with the appropriate administrator to discuss the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional aids. Maintain required inventory records.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor/administrator.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree. Special experience and training as determined by content area.
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License with Elementary Education and Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) endorsements.
  • Expertise in using best instructional practices and integrating multicultural concepts across the curriculum. Skilled in teaching diverse students.
  • High levels of proficiency (speaking, reading and writing) in both English and Spanish. In-depth knowledge of content areas.
  • Good organization and communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders within the school environment.
  • Knowledge of classroom management and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Professional Learning Communities.
  • Work is assigned by self or building administrator. This position requires application of position knowledge to effectively and efficiently instruct content area.
  • Most decisions are made immediately without time for collaboration; supervisor is involved only in major decisions.
