POSITION LOCATION : Spain

The Academic Director is the primary person in charge of directing the Summer Academy curriculum during programming. The Academic Director works in close consultation with the year-round MIL Staff and the on-site Resident Director and Center Director to implement the curriculum, and partner institution guidelines and policies both pre-season and on-site. Additionally, they coach their team of teachers pre- and during-season to implement the Academy Immersion Curriculum and monitor both teacher and student performance. They are proactive and able to solve problems professionally, with the goal of maintaining a successful summer language program. The Academic Director ensures that their language team is following all Academy policies and guidelines.

This is a residential position. All employees will be provided room and board. They will have two full days off during the 4-week session.

As the Summer Academies Academic Director, YOU WILL . . .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accomodations may be made to enable individualswith disabilities to perform the essential duties.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge and utilization of the Academy policies and procedures to create a safe, supportive, rewarding environment for students and staff
  • Work closely with MIL staff to help create, revise, and oversee implementation of the program curriculum
  • Act as the master teacher to coach teachers on the Academy Immersion Curriculum
  • Attend one in-person pre-season training session; dates to be determined

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 5-8 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) regular employees and/or contractors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Work closely with site leaders and promote cohesion and teamwork with staff
  • Facilitate communication with staff, faculty, students, parents, and Administrative staff
  • Participate in Academy evaluations
  • Accept leadership position in addressing academic violations utilizing appropriate interventions and strategies in a timely and effective manner
  • Communicate with parents concerning academic matters
  • Provide hands-on coaching to teaching staff to implement the Academy Immersion Curriculum
  • Participate in planning and execution of staff and student orientation and student programming, including field trips and excursions

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five years of world language teaching experience required
  • Current language educators and/or administrators with experience with middle/high school level students
  • Native or near-native mastery of the target language and culture

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and operations skills
  • Excellent problem solving ability
  • Highly refined communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency
  • Ability to pass required background check
  • Well-versed in current world language pedagogy
  • Teacher training and professional development experience strongly preferred
