Are you a book lover who spends hours sifting through the newest children's and/or YA titles at your local bookstore? Do you have a passion for sharing great books? Would you like to work with a whole team tasked with finding the best books to make a curriculum come to life? Then this just might be your dream job! American Reading Company (ARC) is looking for a Classroom Library Designer to work with customers in maintaining and improving upon our existing classroom libraries.

Responsibilities

  • Close reading of ARC’s curriculum to determine appropriate title matches based on content and grade level
  • Review possible titles for historical accuracy, multicultural approaches, and cultural sensitivity
  • Ensure that each library collection meets exacting quality standards and incorporates the best titles in print specific to the topic and instructional purpose;
  • Maintain digital records that detail what should be purchased and included in each collection;
  • Work with the team to assess text complexity of new titles using the Independent Reading Level Assessment®. (Training will be provided.)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS)
  • Teaching experience
  • Up-to-date knowledge of children's books and young adult literature
  • Experience working with students around books of their choosing
  • Science and/or Social Studies expertise, especially in Black history and/or children’s literature
  • Experience using the 100 BOOK CHALLENGE® or RESEARCH LABS® program(s) preferred
