Compensation Manager

Location: Flexible

Mission:

The Compensation Manager is responsible for evaluating and maintaining the organization's compensation functions with a Total Rewards perspective. Under management and support of the Vice President of Compensation and Benefits, the Compensation Manager collaborates with department and organizational leadership by leveraging personal expertise and knowledge of compensation best practices, and will ensure that our compensation approach is set to be fair, competitive, and support our goals to attract and retain IDEA Public Schools staff.

Accountabilities

1 Maintain integrated and competitive Employee Value Proposition for IDEA Public Schools staff

• Assess and monitor employee preferences among available policies and programs to simplify and improve offerings

• Examine exit survey and other employee data to identify needs not currently met

• Maintain policy and practices including Salary Administration Policy, Vehicle Allowance Policy, and Relocation Reimbursement Policy

• Provide timely and informative responses to managers and staff on any questions/needs related to IDEA's Employee Value Proposition

2 Ensure IDEA Public Schools staff are among the top paid compared to peer organizations

• Conduct external benchmarking of salary scales to maintain competitive IDEA pay scales and recommend and execute shifts based on market

• Monitor FLSA laws and regulations to ensure compliance and make adjustments and recommendations when necessary

3 Evaluate and execute on practices to maintain Total Rewards costs within annual targets and ensure internal equity

• Work with HR Operations, Budgeting and Recruiting departments to maintain position control for the organization

• Complete internal equity and FLSA audits on all positions to ensure that positions and pay are classified correctly

• Analyze monthly budget reports to actual including trends and analytics around data

• Make strategic recommendations on how to reduce these costs around the organization

4 Lead and Develop Team members

• Direct the work of direct report (Compensation Analyst)

• Deliver timely feedback through staff development cycle for all team members, and support with ongoing improvement

Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable): Directly manages Compensation Analyst

  • Ability to work extended workdays to support business needs.
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills, both written and oral, and maintain confidentiality in all matters.


Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required. Relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable
  • Experience: Three-plus years of experience in Compensation administration, high preference with those who have worked in school systems and/or are familiar with common education sector compensation practices. At least one-year management experience of one or more team members.
  • Licenses or Certifications (if applicable): CCP or other compensation related professional certification preferred
  • Knowledge and Skills: Proficiency in use of Word, Excel, and HRIS software. Candidate must have the ability to research, analyze, report and make sound judgments and work on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation.

Other:
  • Ability to travel 3-5 times a year (for applicants living outside RGV)
