Role Mission:

The Camp RIO Summer Program Coordinator is a highly motivated, organized, enthusiastic, and dynamic leader that is responsible for designing and executing program and training personnel to deliver high-energy, kid-centered activities during Summer on the Historic Lula Sams property. The Summer Program Coordinator must ensure that Camp RIO staff effectively deliver programming that advances the core values of IDEA Public Schools along with an adventure-based curriculum that achieves awareness of land stewardship, instills a stewardship ethic and inspires action. He/She will also promote healthy partnerships with local and federal ecologically-driven agencies through grant writing and implementation and other collaborative efforts during the offseason. Furthermore, the Summer Program Coordinator will provide leadership in all aspects of planning and operations for the program throughout the offseason as well as support our Outdoor Education Programs. During Summer months, the Summer Coordinator will be provided accommodations on the camp property with the expectation that they live on-site during Residential Camp. This is a year-round position.

Accountabilities:

Engage campers over the Summer of 2019 in fun, adventure-based programming.

• Design and develop high quality summer programming for approximately 500 students ages 7-15.

• Enable children to develop skills in problem-solving and self-mastery

• Organize and maintain an environment conducive to experiential learning in the outdoors

Camper Recruitment & Registration

• 75% of Summer Camp Registration (864/1152) spaces across all sessions are filled by April 25, 2019; 95% of Summer Camp registrations (1094/1152) are filled by June 11, 2018

• All six Summer Camp sessions have at least 75% of registrations completed (90/120) at least 3 weeks before the first day of each session.

Staff Recruitment

• 80% of Summer Camp Counselors will be committed by May 1, 2019; 100% of Summer Camp Counselors will be committed by May 25, 2019.

Build a community-based environment that empowers children and attracts high-quality staff.

• Recruit, train and coach instructional and support staff in delivery of superior natural resource, adventure-based programming

• Design and develop summer camp programming to ensure the return of campers through all their years of eligible attendance

• Construct and finalize staff handbook and daily agendas for 10 days of Summer Camp Training by May 18, 2019.

• 95% of Counselors will complete their term in 18-19 and 80% are likely or very likely to return for the 19-20 program.

• 85% of Camp Rio full time team members will return to IDEA Public Schools for the 19-20 school year.

During the off-season, serve as the Camp RIO grant manager in the writing and implementation of grants for Camp RIO

• Maintain comprehensive and resourceful records of past and current grant provisions

• Retain healthy and productive partnerships with grantors and other associated agencies

• Monitor completion of projects as proposed in grant agreements

• Update shared grant dashboard accurately and frequently

• Complete reports as required by grantors.

• Participate in Grant'Ed and participate in semi-annual step backs, and regular check-ins with Grants Director and Business Office.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise over 50 seasonal staff and volunteers.

• Assist in the management of a total of 9 instructional guides during the school year.

• Responsible to train other staff to assume all responsibilities in the Program Coordinator's absence.

• Responsible for keeping pertinent records and file systems.

• Responsible for reviewing and maintaining the overall Summer Camp program schedule.

• Assist in the creation of brochures, flyers and newsletters.

• Work in partnership with the Summer Registrar to ensure appropriate staff scheduling.

• Assist in the development of the camp master plan, future visioning and the ongoing process of improving the operation, programs and facilities of the camp.

• Develop a working knowledge of the camper health and accident insurance program, and all of the camp's emergency procedures.

• Meet with other administrative staff as part of the Administrative team.

• Develop, lead and oversee in the day-to-day operation of the Summer program, including coordination of scheduling, trips, staff issues, and participant issues

• Strong understanding of Microsoft Office and Google Docs.

• Perform work duties on camp including maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.

• Be on time to all scheduled trainings and work days.

• Excitement about working for a school system that is changing the status quo of education in Texas.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Education: Degree is required

• Experience:

• 2-3 Years as an Overnight Summer Camp Director or Assistant Director (or equivalent) required.

• Ability to interact with all age levels. (Camper ages will range between 1st grade through high school, and ability to work with adult groups is also required.

• Preferred experience working with school-age students.

• Ability to work well with a team, as well as be counted on to complete individual tasks as necessary.

•Supervisory or management experience preferred.

• Demonstrated ingenuity and inventiveness, capable of thinking on one's feet and adapting to changes in scheduling

• Proven capability of handling multiple responsibilities

• Working knowledge of the American Camp Association's Accreditation program preferred.

• Experience with Ultra Camp or similar CRM system preferred.

Licenses or Certifications:

• Able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR and possibly Life Guarding.
