POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the director of the Department of Special Education the Resource Teacher will provide support, training and required assistance to successfully implement the computerized intervention program in assigned elementary schools. The Resource Teacher will informally assess the delivery of instruction of the computerized intervention program and collaborate with the principal, teachers and special educators to monitor the effective implementation of the program and provide recommendations for adjustment if necessary.

Salary Range: $47,781 - $103,819

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Attends and actively participates in School Instruction Team (SIT) and Supplemental Services Team (SST) meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instruction/behavioral goals, objectives, and methods;
  • Consults with teachers, special educators, parents and students, advising on strategies and activities that may be used to enhance a student's math skills;
  • Encourages schools to utilize data to make sound decisions for students and to differentiate instruction;
  • Assists in the scheduling and assignment of students to the computerized math intervention program;
  • Provides modeling and strategies for optimum teaching delivery and student results;
  • Confers with students, teachers and parents regarding Response to Intervention (RtI) progress;
  • Confers with school counselors and teaching staff to obtain additional testing information and to gain insight on student behavioral disorders affecting learning process;
  • Provides instruction and applies lesson techniques to students requiring the short term reading supplementary intervention program in assigned elementary schools;
  • Attends professional meetings and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences, as necessary;
  • Collects data and provides feedback to principals, math specialists, and the Department of Special Education on the fidelity of the implementation of RtI and the computerized intervention program;
  • Writes reports, maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Job Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Knowledge and experience in the administration of the RtI model, which integrates assessment and intervention within a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavior problems;
  • In-depth knowledge of processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction, intervention strategies, goals and objectives of the curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of instruction;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the teaching/learning process;
  • Ability to work effectively with administration, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents and community; and
  • Excellent oral and communication skills.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor's degree (Master's Degree preferred) in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university and five (5) years of successful teaching experiences at both the primary and intermediate levels.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    A Professional Certificate (Advanced Professional Certificate preferred) appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Oversees and provides support to staff assigned to implement the computerized intervention program with fidelity.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
