Job/Position Title:  Librarian

Office/Campus:  Faculty/Bento Elementary                             

Reports to:  Principal                     

Status:  10 Months, Full-time, Exempt

Primary Purpose:  Provide a resource center of instructional materials for students and teachers.  Be a literacy resource for students, faculty and administration.

Essential Duties/Functions:

  • Create an atmosphere that engages and promotes the love of literature
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of children’s literature
  • Plan and teach developmentally appropriate library classes
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify, develop, and pilot literature-integrated projects that broaden and enhance students’ learning experiences and enrich their understanding
  • Consult with the HBA Elementary Curriculum Coordinator to insure that initiatives and units are aligned to current curricular goals
  • Support and provide training to faculty for integration of literature into curriculum
  • Manage and supervise students, teacher assistant and parent helpers
  • Manage and balance library budget
  • Purchase books, A.V. materials and other equipment
  • Maintain a well-organized and functional up to date library
  • Manage Accelerated Reader Program and coordinate with teachers
  • Repair and replace worn books and resources
  • Supervise students in library before school, at recesses, and after school.
  • Share the love and faith in Jesus Christ with students.

Other Duties/Functions:

  • Plan, organize and implement an annual book fair
  • Assist teachers in finding references
  • Assist students in finding various materials
  • Develop professional relationship with librarians across the state and the nation
  • Train co-workers in proper usage of A.V. equipment
  • Display eye-catching and relevant bulletin boards
  • Provide academic support for students
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

  • Equipment and Software Use: Computer, VCR/TV, Smart Board, Digital Camera, ipad, Google docs/calendars/forms, FinalSite, myBackpack
  • Work Hours: 7:30 a.m. -3:00 p.m., Monday - Friday and various faculty meetings after school
  • Mental Demands: Planning instruction, developing curriculum, staying abreast of new trends in library use.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Moving equipment
  • Social Demands: Ability to communicate with all stakeholders in a friendly and concise way.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Spiritual:  Must have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life and; demonstrate a living relationship with Jesus Christ as described in “The Baptist Faith and Message”, the tenets of the Southern Baptist denomination.
  • Skills/Knowledge:  Skills in teaching students in different grades, knowledge of library requirements for each grade, wide range of knowledge concerning children's books, ability to read well, to push oneself to constantly be seeking out “the latest”. Strong organizational skills.
  • Education/Training: BEd. Degree from an accredited college or university preferably in Library Science.
  • Experience: Experience working in a library with students in different grades, experience collaborating with teachers.
