Operations & Maintenance
Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

Under the direction of Director of Operations & Maintenance, this position performs intermediate

skilled trades work in electrical maintenance, repair, modification, installation and construction for
structures and equipment in school buildings and facilities; does related work as required. Work is
performed under the regular supervisor of the Physical Plants Manager. Limited supervision may be
exercised over helpers.

Qualifications:
1. High school diploma, G.E.D., or any combination of education and experience equivalent to

graduation from high school.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
3. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License and have a good driving record.
4. Must be able to work flexible hours and be available on call when needed.
5. Must be able to work during inclement weather.
6. Ongoing evidence of mental and physical competence to perform assigned responsibilities may be

required from a qualified physician.
7. Applicant who has had prior experience in a related position must have a performance rating

acceptable to Stafford County Public School for such experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the Electrician
trade.

2. General knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials, thorough
knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with assigned trade.

3. Skill in the use of tools and equipment.
4. Ability to draw and work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications.
5. Ability to follow and issue oral and written instructions, knowledge of English grammar and

usage.
6. Ability to estimate needed time and materials required for various jobs.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with building staff and associates.
8. Knowledge of local building codes.
9. Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently.
10. Demonstrate knowledge of mandated safety and environmental regulations.
11. Demonstrate the ability to climb ladders and lift 50 pounds.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serve as skilled trade's worker in electrical work in equipment, buildings and facilities.
2. Installs repairs and maintains electrical systems including single phase and 3-phase systems.
3. Installs circuits for machinery and equipment using various wiring techniques.
4. Installs repairs and maintains complex and various cafeteria and school plant electrical/electronic

equipment.
5. Installs and replaces electrical equipment or wiring, breakers, switches, controls, motors, light

sources, etc.
6. Troubleshoots system failures, assesses and analyses maintenance and repair needs.
7. Installs school traffic lights, power confections and cables for computers and related systems.
8. Develops innovative approaches to repair systems.
9. Uses a variety of standard and special electrician tools and test equipment.
10. Prepares reports, work orders, timesheets, logs, and records as required.

11. Designs projects estimates material needs and purchases materials.
12. Assists with snow and ice removal.
13. Assists other trades as necessary.
14. Performs related tasks as required.
15. Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board

Policies and Procedures.
16. Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
17. Serve as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Operations and Maintenance, the Skilled Maintenance

Worker/Plumber performs skilled work to provide preventive maintenance and repair of the school division's

plumbing equipment and facilities.

Qualifications:
1. High school diploma, G.E.D., or any combination of education and experience equivalent to

graduation from high school.

2. Must possess a current Cross-Connection Tester's Certificate or obtain one in a timely manner.

3. Must have three to five years experience in the plumbing trade.

4. Demonstrate knowledge of safety rules and regulations.

5. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License and have a good driving record.

6. Must be able to work flexible hours and be available on call when needed.

7. Must be able to work during inclement weather.

8. Ongoing evidence of mental and physical competence to perform assigned responsibilities may be

required from a qualified physician.

9. Applicant who has had prior experience in a related position must have a performance rating

acceptable to Stafford County Public School for such experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

trade.

9. Demonstrate knowledge of operation and service procedures of backflow prevention devices.

10. Demonstrate the ability to use multimeters and ampmeters for electrical trouble shooting.

12. Demonstrate knowledge of mandated safety and environmental regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of all plumbing fixtures and

related equipment.

2. Repair and maintain water, gas, oil and sewer pipes and lines to include the hydronic side of

HVAC systems.

3. Install and repair domestic water heaters.

4. Maintain well water systems and water filtration systems.

5. Repair of Food Nutrition equipment to include, but not limited to: dishwashers, booster heaters,

food steams, etc.

6. Test and repair backflow prevention devices.

7. Assist HVAC mechanics with repair of boilers and furnaces.

8. Diagnose and repair electrical supply sources and control circuits.

9. Assist in providing cost estimates for installation and repair of plumbing facilities.

10. Follow all policies and procedures regarding mandated safety and environmental regulations.

11. Maintain accurate records and reports of activities.

12. Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board

Policies and Procedures.

13. Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.

required from a qualified physician.

7. An applicant who has had prior experience in a related position must have a performance rating

acceptable to Stafford County Public Schools for such experience.

3. Perform routine and minor locksmithing work, including key cutting.

4. Install and repair drop and acoustical ceilings.

5. Perform routine and special tile work, routine masonry and patchwork, and minor gutter repair.

6. Renovate rooms and buildings including walls, counters, landings, rails, steps, etc.

7. Respond to special and emergency safety and security needs involving locks, panic bars, closers, door

and window repairs and replacement, etc.

8. Prepare reports, work orders, timesheets, logs and records as required.

7. Prepare and install signs.
