Tutors Pending Approval
Tutors have the opportunity to help students on a one-on-one or small-group basis outside of the regular classroom. A tutor's job is to meet students wherever they are and provide them with strategies and help so they can be successful and do well on the State assessments.
Qualifications
Tutors must possess a passion for helping students learn and have the knowledge and skills to help students find new ways to look at difficult skills and concepts. Tutors must have patience, as many students they will work with will have trouble understanding the content of which tutors are trying to help them. Tutors must also have a positive attitude and know ways to motivate students when they become frustrated by material they do not understand.
Preferred Qualifications
Recent employee or retiree of district or charter school and familiarity with New York State assessments for grades 3 and 4. Current student in teacher education program or recent graduate of such program. All tutors must possess a NYS fingerprint clearance.
Responsibilities
As a tutor, the main responsibility is to help students learn, reviewing content with them, explaining how to solve problems and checking completed work. Tutors will work at the direction of the classroom teacher and work with students in small group or one-on-one instructional situations. Tutors must often keep reports on students and share those reports with supervisors and classroom teachers. In addition to the academic component, tutors are responsible for providing discipline and serving as a role model.
Schedule
Tutors are expected to commit to a regular schedule to provide a stable presence to students. Schedules are as follows:

- Math Tutors: Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
- ELA Tutors: Tuesdays, Thursdays 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
- Needs-based Tutors: Monday through Friday, 2:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
- Tutors can apply to work in one or more of the above categories.
