The Bolles School, a Northeast Florida independent college preparatory day and boarding school founded in 1933, and regarded as one of the top educational institutions in the country, currently seeks an accomplished and creative individual to serve as our next Associate Head of School. The Associate Head reports to the Head of School, is a member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for the institution's day-to-day administration of faculty, curriculum and student academic affairs and programs. This is a 12-month Administrative position. The successful candidate will ideally start Summer of 2018.

Purpose:  Conceptualize, implement, oversee, and monitor all day-to-day administration of faculty and student academic affairs and programs for 1,700 students PK-12th grade.

Essential Functions:

  • Articulate the school’s vision of academic distinction, instructional excellence, student retention, and constituent satisfaction in a manner consistent with the school’s mission and strategic plan
  • Act as the academic leader for the school, responsible for: student scheduling, academic advising, college counseling, monitoring student academic progress, and coordination of the Academic Council
  • Maintain the educational standards supported by the mission and established by the agencies that accredit the school
  • In partnership with Human Resources, recruit, hire and develop K-12 faculty
  • In partnership with Division Heads and Human Resources assist in the faculty evaluation and professional development process
  • Manage academic budgets and oversight
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and review of curriculum
  • Oversee the grading and reporting of standards and methods used by faculty in measuring student achievement; ensures the maintenance of student academic records
  • Conducts or arranges regular faculty meetings relating to curriculum, development, and other academic matters, including the exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest
  • Ensures the creation, maintenance and distribution of student/parent handbooks
  • Oversee awards and honors for both students and faculty
  • Serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures
  • Oversee academic eligibility for athletics and activities
  • Oversee and assist with Dean’s office and discipline
  • Oversee and assist with Honor System and Court
  • Serve on admission committee in evaluation of applicants for enrollment
  • Be a visible presence in all areas of the school and keep the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, challenges and opportunities of the school
  • Responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, employee development, and administration in the following departments:  Academics, College Counseling, Student Health & Wellness, and Registrar


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field from a four-year college or university required; Advanced degree in Educational Leadership or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum five years of relevant, progressive administrative leadership experience; classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Well versed in current teaching pedagogy and innovative program design, including the purposeful use of digital technologies
  • Leadership experience in designing and implementing curriculum and managing change
  • A clear vision of academic excellence
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to respond to inquiries/complaints from parents, colleagues, regulatory agencies, and other key constituents
  • Ability to effectively prepare and present information to senior administration, faculty & staff, public groups, and Board of Trustees
  • Experience with non-profits and/or independent schools a plus
  • Must be willing to travel as needed to represent the School
