Assistant Principal of Operations: San Antonio

The Assistant Principal of Operations (APO) manages campus operations for each IDEA site (2 schools within 1 school site). Each IDEA School Site has 2 schools: the Academy (Grades K-5) and the College Prep (Grades 6-12). The APO is responsible for achieving operational excellence across non-instructional areas, including: front office management, student information systems, child nutrition, transportation, health services, business office, facility maintenance, new construction management, technology coordination, student recruitment and enrollment. APOs have two managers (Academy Principal and College Prep Principal) that share responsibility for coaching, mentoring, and day-to-day capacity building. Additionally, APOs receive strategic direction, technical support and direct teaching from the regional and national Operations team.

Important Note : A "Launching School" APO is hired an entire school year ahead of a projected School Site Launch date in order to lay the groundwork required to launch a new IDEA school site. For example, a "Launching APO" may be hired in July 2018 and will work for an entire school year (2018-19) to build the campus operations team, recruit for students, and ultimately launch a brand new IDEA school site in the Fall of 2019. A Launching School APO must commit to staying in the role for at least 2 years.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive 100% student enrollment at campus through student recruitment efforts
  • Drive average daily student attendance and student persistence year-over-year
  • Ensure students and teachers enjoy a safe and clean building every day
  • Manage student pick-up, drop-off, and bus routes logistics
  • Manage student recess and lunch schedules and logistics
  • Manages over 8 campus operations staff members that include: receptionist, SIS coordinator, registrar, cafeteria manager, transportation manager, health aide, business clerk, and facility manager, among others


A Typical Day at IDEA:

IDEA Assistant Principals of Operations (APOs) are often the first campus-based staff members to arrive to school in the morning and the last to leave the campus at the end of the day. APO's manage the student drop-off and pick-up processes and are on on duty for the entire extended school day of 7:45 am to 3:45 pm. Many APO's typically arrive at 6:30 am and leave at 5:00 pm according to their duty, recruitment, and meeting schedules.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Proven track record of personally achieving success and of leading others
  • Background in education preferred
  • Spanish fluency preferred
  • Belief in and alignment with IDEA's mission and values is non- negotiable
