Kitchen Equipment Repair Technician/Food Services

Performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the repair and maintenance of kitchen and refrigeration equipment.  Work is performed under general supervision without specific instructions.  Receives daily work orders from team leader or supervisor.

**Minimum and maximum salary scale listed; contracted salary depends on experience.
 
Essential Job Functions:
  • Conducts maintenance and repairs of various types of kitchen and refrigeration equipment, including:  walk-in freezers, refrigerators, industrial-sized steam cookers, washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers, ice machines, water coolers, etc.
  • Conducts summer inspection, cleaning and service of equipment.
  • Navigates the work order management system to accept and complete work orders.
  • Installs new equipment; maintains settings on wiring controls; repairs leaks; replaces old or defective parts.
  • Works with other maintenance workers, school officials, and staff to resolve maintenance problems.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance repair calls, and after hours equipment issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of a wide variety of kitchen and refrigeration equipment, household and commercial sized; of heat transfer, temperature and pressure control, plumbing, electrical controls and mechanics and of electrical, health and building codes. Demonstrated skill in soldering and blazing with propane/oxygen.   Demonstrated ability to read wiring diagrams and follow installation and operation manuals, to work safely and efficiently with various types of equipment and tools and to maintain and service equipment.  Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility for repair of assigned equipment without direct supervision and to prioritize work schedules.  Demonstrated ability to investigate, identify and correct problems in assigned work areas; to work effectively with other maintenance workers, staff and the public and to follow oral and written instructions. Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
 
Requirements: Refrigerant transition and recovery certification. Education, training or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Valid VA Driver's License. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.  Applicants considered for employment must successfully complete the following background investigations/tests:
