Job Summary:
Provides audiological services for assigned schools and students. Conducts formal assessments with target student groups to determine educational need and to design specific programs and placement. Works in concert with Baltimore City referral sources and other available resources in the city school system to include the community at large to achieve purpose. Analyzes test data to provide consultation to Baltimore City Public Schools staff and parents introducing therapeutic interventions for students as deemed necessary. Provides in-service training and support to parents and staff in the areas of need.

Essential Functions:
  • • Receives and responds to requests for audio logical services.
    • Receives and reviews available information from school-based and outside resources about student audio logical functioning and recommends appropriate intervention.
    • Administers scores, interprets, and provides written reports on audio logical and central auditory processing assessments.
    • Observes students in the classroom for diagnostic and intervention purposes.
    • Interviews students, parents, school personnel and gathers other sources of information on individual students.
    • Plans, designs, implements, monitors, and evaluates school-based therapeutic and instructional interventions for students.
    • Works directly with teachers, IEP team members and other school personnel to assist in the implementation of instruction of IEP goals and objectives.
    • Provides aural rehabilitation therapy for hearing impaired students.
    • Provides school based hearing screenings in conjunction with the Baltimore City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
    • Interprets and synthesizes information obtained from audio logical interventions in order to prepare a written report.
    • Uses information obtained from the audio logical assessment to develop written recommendations.
    • Makes appropriate referrals to resources available within City Schools and the community-at-large to facilitate education/treatment goals recommended for students.
    • Consults with students, staff, parents, and the community-at-large to assist in developing therapeutic instructional goals and strategies for students.
    • Consults with curriculum personnel, administrators, and teachers in order to help adapt curriculum and classroom practices to pupils with any special needs.
    • Provides in-service training to City Schools' staff and community.
    • Submits Medicaid reimbursement documentation.
    • Maintains case management documentation including clinical notes and student attendance.
    • Participates in meetings regarding children with special needs, i.e., educational management team meetings, parent meetings, IEP team meetings, SST/504 meetings, legal briefings and hearings, etc.
    • Performs and completes mandated services within timelines established by law or regulation.
    • Keeps abreast of local, state and federal regulations and policies for audiology.
    • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.



Qualifications:
  • • Masters degree in Audiology. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
    • Current license in Audiology or eligibility for licensure in Audiology from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
    • Thorough knowledge of child development, individual and group therapeutic interventions as they pertain to children with hearing impairments.
    • Familiarity with federal laws and regulations as they apply to school systems.
    • Excellent skills in audiological assessment to include otoacoustic emissions and verification of FM/hearing aids.
    • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
    • Ability to work well with targeted population students, parents, and staff.
    • Ability to use technical computer applications, including the Internet and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
    • Reliable transportation a must.
