JOB INFORMATION:
  • SUMMER SCHOOL TEACHING POSITION - UP TO 7 HOURS PER WEEK
  • Anticipated Summer School Dates: June 20 through August 1, 2018
  • Anticipated opening. Final determination for holding this course will be based on enrollment.
  • Must hold Washington State Certification with appropriate subject level endorsement.
  • ENDORSEMENT: Math

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Strong applications for this position include letters of recommendation from former and current supervisors, which speak to strengths in the areas of professionalism, collegiality, instructional capacity, and classroom management.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS:

Provide online instruction to students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Facilitate a one semester course, up to seven hours per week, depending on enrollment.
  2. Maintain appropriate student records as prescribed by the State's Alternative Learning Experience regulations which require 30-day progress reports, weekly contact and ongoing communication with the students and parents via phone and/or email as well as in the online course.
  3. Follow the SPOKANE VIRTUAL LEARNING curriculum in Blackboard which is aligned with State and district curriculum guidelines.
  4. Be able to effectively teach students of varying abilities.
  5. Participate in training programs established by the Online Program Team. These training programs may be online or in traditional classroom settings (or both).
  6. Communicate regularly with fellow SPOKANE VIRTUAL LEARNING instructors and collaborate with members of the Online Program Team.
  7. Revise and improve the curriculum with members of the Online Program Team based on student and peer feedback, with permission.
  8. Communicate and interpret school programs to patrons.
  9. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by program administrator.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Holds a current Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
  2. Experience in K-12 online learning preferred.
  3. Training in BlackBoard Learning System preferred.
  4. Knowledge of district curriculum.
  5. Trained in Understanding by Design.
  6. Gains the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor and behavior.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a confidential manner.
  8. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.
  9. Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Monetary terms as defined in the collective bargaining agreement between the district and the Spokane Education Association. Length of service is coterminous with meeting the needs of the summer school program. Current rate of pay is $31.53 per hour.
