  • Currently working towards or possessing a Virginia Administrative Certification, preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of research-based, current curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.


  • Demonstrated knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy.



JOB DESCRIPTION:
Orientation for all summer school staff will take place on July 6.

July 9 - August 3

Elementary Locations: Abingdon, Barrett, Campbell, Claremont, Hoffman-Boston, Long Branch, Nottingham

(Times will vary by location.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with building level administrators to recruit, train and supervise the summer school office and security staff; prepare staff handbook, plan and conduct orientation, and prepare general policies and routines for staff.


  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff.


  • Develop initial presentation on school expectations and routines for students and follow-up presentations as necessary.


  • Ensure implementation of the summer school instructional model including the development of a master schedule that aligns to specific instructional expectations.


  • Work with building level administrator to analyze reading and math data, group students, and match students with appropriate interventions.


  • Provide instructional coaching for Summer School staff in the implementation of project based learning and intervention strategies in reading and math.


  • Implement and run daily activities including breakfast and lunch, classroom transitions, etc.


  • Designate a disciplinary referral process and suspension procedures following APS guidelines.


  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for students and manage serious incidents.


  • Confirm clinic procedures as well as hall passes and other procedures to ensure an instruction-oriented environment throughout the day.


  • Maintain consistency in application of attendance process.


  • Manage mailing of attendance letters and progress reports.


  • Implement and oversee teacher records including attendance and grades.


  • Communicate with parents, students, and community members.


  • Work with school staff to dismiss students exceeding the number of allowable absences.


  • Coordinate and manage arrival and dismissal procedures, including bus transportation.


  • Ensure compliance with all laws, board policies, and regulations.


  • Provide a positive and collaborative culture for students and staff.


  • Manage, direct, and maintain records of the necessary supplies, books, equipment, and materials.


  • Maintain a system for collection of student data.


  • Perform related duties as required or assigned.



EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience with Summer School implementation.


  • Previous experience with Project Based Learning.


  • Previous experience with instructional coaching models.

SALARY:
Summer School teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the Non-VRS equivalant rate.Retired APS teachers will be paid $47.73 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed summer school teachers will be paid $32.50 per hour.
