Salary Range:         DFT Salary Schedule for adult education hourly teachers:

 $28-$36 Per Hour (Based on degree and years of experience)

 No pay during district vacation days (Christmas, Easter, & Winter Break)  

In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers and the Detroit Public Schools Community District, the following vacancy is announced

Work Hours:            35 Hours per week (10 Months)

Qualifications

Education:

Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization in elementary education, self-contained or reading. Possess a Bachelor's Degree from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent agency. Successful candidates who possess degrees beyond the Bachelor's Degree will be eligible for the appropriate salary differential. Must have experience working with adult learners.

Adult Education Teacher will be responsible for:
  • Daily individualized lesson planning for a self-contained setting teaching English and Reading skills to adults with low educational functional levels/grade levels demonstrated on a pre-assessment.  
  • Effective delivery of planned instructions using andragogy skills;
  • Data Driven Lessons with demonstration of student growth;
  • Understanding of Depth of Knowledge;
  • Daily attendance, retention, student achievement/educational functioning level;
  • Effective classroom management and excellent customer service skills;
  • Ongoing Professional Development in the area of adult education
  • Motivating adult learners to improve their English and Reading skills
  • Motivating adult learners to earn their GED or high school diploma
  • Computer knowledge of Grad Point or similar program

Attendance: Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
