SUBJECT: SPECIAL EDUCATION BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST

REPORTS TO: Manager of Special Education and Intervention Services

ANTICIPATED START DATE: February 1, 2018

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

The Behavior Specialist provides consultation services in the areas of targeted tiered interventions system-wide to promote the fidelity of behavioral interventions and progress monitoring for students in need of Tier I, II, and III interventions. On-going meetings with school based teams to address tiered interventions for general education students and/or students with disabilities that supports inclusion practices within the district. Additionally, fosters collaboration with Child Study and other specialist within the district to align principles of social emotional learning across all settings. Professional development modeling and coaching to school based staff is a critical component of this position to ensure that students are provided with the necessary behavioral social/emotional supports necessary to access their learning to meet with academic success.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. System-wide behavioral consultation to promote students' success through specialized targeted interventions.

2. Meet with school-based teams as needed to support the monitoring and implementation of behavioral intervention plans and progress monitoring data collection.

3. Provide ongoing training and professional development in the areas of adaptive behaviors, functional behavioral assessments, behavioral intervention plans, social skills, social emotional learning, executive functioning, anger management, and trauma

4. Collaborate with Child Study staff and school based teams to promote a school culture based on the social emotional learning framework.

5. Consult with and/or provide support to Special Needs Teachers and Clinicians in STEP classrooms to facilitate communication and the coordination of supports given a multidisciplinary approach to ensure best practices of tiered behavioral interventions.

6. Attend school based and/or IEP TEAM meetings as needed to review data and/or behavioral observations as well as to assist students with their transition plans to a new placement.

7. Support the transition of students to Central Mass Collaborative and district alternative programs.

9. Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. DESE certification as a School Adjustment Counselor

2. Master's Degree in Counseling

3. Licensed as a mental health counselor (LMHC) or (LCSW)

4. Five to seven years of successful therapeutic experience working with students with social emotional needs in a public school setting

5. CPI Certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Clinical and supervisory experience

2. Working knowledge of special education regulations and process

3. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs.

4. Ability to speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Albanian, Portuguese or an African language

SALARY: Appropriate step on Teachers' salary schedule
