Resource Teacher, Lep Curriculum - Elementary

English Learner Resource Teachers
  • Develops curricular materials for ELs and teachers
  • Supports ESL teachers by providing staff development and model lessons
  • Conducts workshops for mainstream teachers on the use of the NC Standard Courses of Study
  • Assists schools and International Center in administering the state-identified English Language Proficiency Tests
  • Represents CMS at parent meetings
  • Responds to stakeholders' requests for program support through on-site visits
  • Conduct other duties assigned


Experience and Education:
  • BA/BS degree in ESL, Second Languages, or Elementary Education from an accredited university
  • 3 years successful teaching experience; ESL licensure or eligibility for licensure


Knowledge of:
  • State and federal regulations in regard to English Learners (ELs)
  • Principles, theory, and practice of language acquisition programs
  • Appropriate assessment for ELs
  • Linguistic and cultural diversity


Ability to:
  • Plan ESL instruction for a wide range of student ages and abilities
  • Integrate the use of technology into the instructional program
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops
  • Develop curricular documents for ESL and mainstream teachers of ELs
  • Mentor new ESL teachers
