ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. The Teach Syracuse Program is aimed at educating students about the benefits of pursuing teaching as a career at a time where fewer and fewer students are entering into the profession.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Advisor will help to nurture and guide high school students who have expressed interest in the field of education as a possible career. Through weekly meetings and a minimum of two key events aimed at engaging students in this area, the advisor will help to ensure that these students learn about the benefits that a career in education has to offer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Teach Syracuse Advisor will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:

• Meet with interested students weekly for one hour over the course of the 15 week program
• During these meetings, facilitate discussions focusing on different aspects of the profession.
• Facilitate participation in a minimum of two key events with the program partner, Syracuse University
• Assist in the logistical arrangements for potential guest speakers
• Participate in advisor orientation
• Assist in student recruitment for program

REQUIREMENTS:

• Candidates must be current SCSD Teachers at HW Smith PK-8 School OR Lincoln Middle School .
• Minimum 3 years of teaching experience
• A desire to help encourage students to enter into the profession
• Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse learners and thorough familiarity with all aspects of the City of Syracuse
• Hours will be outside of contract hours

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

• $750 for the 15-week program.
