    REPORTS TO: Director of Parent and Student Support Services LOCATION(S): Elementary / Secondary

    JOB DESCRIPTION
    The Social Worker provides social work services to children and their families within the school district. The social worker functions within the guidelines provided by the building to which he/she is assigned and functions in alignment with district priorities.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (Essential Job Functions):
    The School Social Worker shall:
    • Be directly responsible to the Supervisor.
    • Be responsible for the identification and provision of social work services to students with social and emotional problems.
    • Identify and assist students, families, and school systems in overcoming barriers that interfere with learning.
    • Make appropriate referrals to community agencies and perform follow-up tasks on student referrals.
    • Provide assistance and/or input in conducting socio-developmental studies required as a part of the total evaluation of students.
    • Function as a member of school based intervention teams as assigned by supervisor.
    • Provide consultation to school personnel.
    • Work within the school setting and the community in developing programs for school children.
    • Respond to crisis situations as warranted.
    • Conform to the standards established by the National Association of Social Workers' Code of Ethics.
    • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by Supervisor.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    Knowledge of:
    • Current social work principles and practices.
    • Educational programs, curriculum and instructional practices that support student learning.
    • Applicable school and district policies and procedures.

    • Interpersonal communication skills
    Ability to:
    • Plan, organize, coordinate, and administer the delivery of social programs and services at the designated school and for specified programs and services.
    • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Analyze situations accurately, and adopt an effective course of action.
    • Work collaboratively in a team setting
    • Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
    • Meet district standards of professional conduct as outlined in the Board Policy.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    School/Office environment; walking, standing, squatting, hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations; seeing to monitor various activities; read documents, view computer monitor, kneeling, bending at the waist, sitting for extended periods of time; reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally, or bending at the waist to retrieve and store files; lifting semi heavy objects; driving a vehicle to conduct work.

    TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelor's degree in social work or a closely related field required.
    • Master's degree in social work preferred.
    • A valid Professional Educator License with the Illinois State Board of Education with School Social Worker Endorsement preferred.
    • A minimum of three (3) years experience working with children in high-needs environment.
