ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:
The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind or have been considered "hard to serve" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged Superintendent Jaime Alicea with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 21,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 80% qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 19% are served by the Office of Special Education and 77% are students of color.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:
The Adult Education Instructor's duties include, but are not limited to teaching the Nail Technology class at the Justice Center (keeping accurate student records, preparing lesson plans, updating curriculum, ordering supplies, and related duties). The teacher will also teach the Barbering class as needed, repair and maintain the barbering equipment, and maintain accurate student records. This person will be part of a team of teachers that work with inmates at the Justice Center.
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Adult Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIREMENTS:
HOURS: 15 hours per week, Monday - Friday mornings 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
SALARY/SALARY RANGE: The current new hire starting salary for this position is $20,425.

- NYS Adult Education certified
- NYS Cosmetology License
- Experience in the field of cosmetology
- Minimum of three (3) years of adult education teaching preferred
REQUIREMENTS:
- NYS Adult Education Certification
- NYS Cosmetology License
- Able to work a summer extension of six (6) weeks
