    The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.

    Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.

    Preference in hiring for this position will be given to internal candidates.

    General Statement:
    The Associate Superintendent for School Development is responsible for developing and monitoring systems for School Improvement Plans, managing student discipline in collaboration with principals, overseeing programs affiliated with Family & Community Engagement, Alternative Education and Summer Schools, Adult Education, College & Career Readiness/Guidance Services, and Co-Curricular Activities, and coaching and/or mentoring approximately five (5) principals.

    The Associate Superintendent for School Development reports to the Deputy Superintendent.

    Major Responsibilities:
  • Coach and Mentor Principals (30%)
  • Coaching and Mentoring – Provide guidance and direction to approximately five (5) principals in meeting district and school goals.
  • Communication – Work closely and communicate regularly as part of a highly collaborative executive leadership team to ensure cohesion among school buildings.
  • School Improvement Planning and Monitoring (20%)
  • Development and Implementation of SIPs – establish and manage alignment of SIPs with District Goals and Objectives; ensure SIP use of district strategies; align stakeholders around strategic vision.
  • Develop Student Attendance Policies and Procedures – develop student attendance tracking methods, develop diversionary programs to address truancy; develop processes and practices to reduce chronic absenteeism and to improve student attendance; report process and outcome measures for student attendance.
  • Family and Community Engagement (15%)
  • Design and Implement Parent Engagement Programs – plan and evaluate student and stakeholder engagement in educational programs and services; assess stakeholder satisfaction; provide parent education; identify, implement, evaluate and revise parent education needs and services as necessary.
  • Develop Student and Stakeholder Listening Strategies – determine market requirements for educational programs and services.
  • Management and Oversight of Summer, Adult, and Alternative Programs (15%)
  • Coordination of Programs – Coordinate planning, design and implementation of effective alternative education programs and interventions, including oversight of Summer School, Adult and Continuing Education.
  • Management and Oversight of Guidance and Co-Curricular Programs (10%)
  • Guidance and Counseling – Develop a framework (e.g., ASCA standards) for design and implementation of PK-12 academic, social-emotional and career counseling services; design and implement social services, homeless and migrant services.
  • Co-Curricular and Enrichment – Design co-curricular and enrichment programs and services such as interscholastic athletics, clubs and other enrichment opportunities in keeping with engagement strategies and best-practice talent and character development models.
  • Professional Development Support – Ensure professional development for all coaches and advisers around purposes, principles and practices of SPS co-curricular and enrichment activities.
  • Monitor Participation – Monitor student participation and facilitate implementation of strategies that promote participation by all students.
  • Report on Progress – Report on process and outcome measures.
  • Other Duties (10%)
  • Coordinate with and respond to Board of Education, City Departments and City Boards – Engineering Department, Risk Management Department, IT Department, Controller's Office, Planning Board, Board of Finance, and other Boards as needed
  • Serve as liaison with Board of Education Operations Committee Chair
  • Represent the Superintendent of Schools as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

  • Principals
  • Director of Family & Community Engagement
  • Director of Alternative and Summer School
  • Director of Adult Education
  • Director of College and Career Readiness/Guidance Services
  • Director of Co-Curricular Activities

  • Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
    Works in standard office and school building environments.

    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Knowledge of effective teaching techniques and instructional practices that result in quality learning for all students
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with others
    • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

    Qualifications:
    • CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092) or eligibility
    • A minimum of ten (10) years of extensive and progressively responsible experience in administration and instructional services
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a school principal
    • Experience in an urban district preferred
    • Demonstrated experience and expertise in Stamford Public Schools' strategic focus areas
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate

    Work Year:
    12 months in keeping with contracts for executive management personnel

    Highly competitive
