The primary role of the Principal is to maximize learning outcomes for students and staff; lead improvements in curriculum, instruction, and assessment; to manage faculty and staff, and to coordinate operations in the building.  The Principal is a member of the senior staff and reports directly to the Head of the School.  The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Creates a conscious community of continuous learning for all faculty, staff, and students
  • Fosters a culture of high expectations for all students, faculty, staff, community members, and guests
  • Establishes an instructional vision and implements a focused plan for improving student achievement
  • Supports teachers in improving their instructional practice through regular formal and informal observations and feedback
  • Leads or assists the Head of School and other administrative team members in determining and implementing strategic institutional initiatives and K-12 programs
  • Hires, inducts, and evaluates faculty members and implements and trains for the Rhode Island Educator Evaluation system
  • Chairs Campus Leadership Team and helps to develop, implement, and revise improvement plan with staff, parents, and community members 
  • Leads or assists with professional development for all faculty and staff in building
  • Works closely with Business Manager and Head of School on devising and revising budget
  • Understands and embraces our focus on our social-emotional development philosophy, including training teachers and working with students and specialists to develop individual support for student growth 
  • Manages all accreditation processes and assisting with mandated reporting
  • Articulates and supports the School’s mission and vision while understanding and promoting its history 
  • Provides staff support at meetings of the Board of Trustees
  • Attends administrative meetings, Board of Trustees meetings, Parents’ Association meetings, Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) meetings, other school meetings or outside meetings as a representative of the administration

Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing and overall communication skills
  • Strong administrative experience; experience with faculty evaluation, preferred
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations governing public charter schools, preferred
  • Three to five years of relevant leadership experience preferred
  • RI Building Level Administrator Certificate required
