New K-8 CSTEM school to be located in the Dove Mountain area of Marana.  The school is scheduled to open for the 2019-2020 school year; an earlier starting date may be discussed and agreed upon prior to acceptance of the position.

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The Principal provides leadership and management of a school site, including the effective implementation of district initiatives and the site School Improvement Plan.  The principal promotes the success of every student by:
 

  • Facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by all stakeholders.
  • Advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
  • Ensuring management of the organization, operation, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.
  • Collaborating with faculty and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
  • Acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.
  • Understanding, responding to, and influencing the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaboratively develop and/or implement a shared district/school vision and mission
  • Collect and use data to identify goals, assess organizational effectiveness, and promote organizational learning
  • Create and implement plans to achieve goals
  • Promote continuous and sustainable improvement of student learning and instructional practices
  • Monitor and evaluate progress and revise improvement plans
  • Nurture and sustain a positive school culture of professional learning communities through collaboration, trust, learning, and high expectations
  • Implement a comprehensive, rigorous, and coherent curricular program aligned to adopted Arizona curriculum standards and district instructional model
  • Create a personalized and motivating learning environment for students
  • Ensure quality instruction and professional learning through effective implementation of the teacher evaluation system
  • Implement assessment and accountability systems to monitor student progress
  • Develop the instructional and leadership capacity of staff, as well as develop personal goals for leadership and learning
  • Maximize time spent on quality instruction
  • Promote the use of the most effective and appropriate technologies to support teaching and learning
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the instructional program
  • Monitor and evaluate the management and operational systems (support staff supervision/evaluation, facility, grounds, etc.)
  • Obtain, allocate, align, and effectively utilize human, fiscal, and technological resources
  • Promote and protect the welfare and safety of students and staff (school safety and security, positive behavioral systems, student discipline, school procedures)
  • Develop the capacity for distributed leadership
  • Ensure teacher and organizational time is focused to support quality instruction and student learning (school schedules, assessment coordination, duty assignments, etc.)
  • Collect and analyze data and information pertinent to the educational environment
  • Promote understanding and appreciation of the community’s culture, including coordination/supervision of athletics, extracurricular activities and events; attendance at and support of parent organization meetings and events, etc.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with families and caregivers (visibility, accessibility, verbal and written communication, timely responsiveness)
  • Build and sustain productive relationships with community partners
  • Ensure a system of accountability for every student’s academic and social success
  • Model principles of self-awareness, reflective practice, transparency, and ethical behavior
  • Safeguard the values of democracy, equity, and diversity (facilitation of Special Education, 504, Title I, ELL, gifted, McKinney-Vento programs)
  • Consider and evaluate the potential moral and legal consequences of decision-making
  • Promote social justice and ensure that individual student needs inform all aspects of schooling
  • Advocate for children, families, and caregivers by facilitating access to available school, district, and community resources
  • Act to influence local, district, and state decisions affecting student learning
  • Assess, analyze, and anticipate emerging trends and initiatives in order to adapt leadership strategies

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:     

  • Masters Degree in Education including course work in education leadership/administration
  • Arizona Principal Certification

Experience:    

  • Minimum of three years of successful experience as a teacher
  • Work experience in educational administration or leadership as assigned by a building principal (e.g. school committees, advisory assignments, etc.)
  • Knowledge of education at the appropriate level
