    Title: Gifted Education Teacher

    Qualifications: *Current Kansas Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Devin Center
    Health certificate on file in Devin Center
    *3-5 years teaching experience preferred, but not required

    Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Exceptional Student Services

    Supervises: Students Grades K-5

    BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE
    The Gifted Education teacher is responsible for planning, implementation, evaluation and support of a comprehensive gifted service delivery model. The Gifted Education teacher collaborates with other members of the staff and administration to appropriately monitor student progress, make informed, timely educational decisions regarding eligibility, and student progress/growth.

    The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Submit required reports in a timely manner, participate in staff, department, committee and team meetings, assist in early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
    2. Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the Principal and/or Director of Exceptional Student Services.
    3. Keep informed regarding new technologies that facilitate and support extended learning.
    4. Communicate clearly and accurately with administrators, staff, parents, students and support agencies.
    5. Understand the issues in definitions, theories, and identification of gifted and talented students, including those from diverse backgrounds.
    6. Recognize the learning differences, developmental milestones, and cognitive/affective characteristics of gifted and talented students, including those from diverse backgrounds, and identify their related academic and social-emotional needs.
    7. Understand, plan, and implement a range of evidence-based strategies to assess gifted and talented students, to differentiate instruction, content, and assignments for them (including the use of higher-order critical and creative-thinking skills).
    8. Plan and implement transition services for students.
    9. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state, and federal laws.
    10. Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, annual review, and re-evaluation process.
    11. Attend/assist with school events; organize/supervise field trips.
    12. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
    13. Uphold and enforce Board policies, administrative procedures, school rules, and federal and state regulations including but not limited to
    Kansas Plan for Special Education
    Consolidated Plan for Federal Programs

    1. Perform other duties assigned by the principal or other building or district administrators.

    Term of Employment: Teacher Contract

    Salary Range: Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.

    Evaluation Frequency: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with state regulations and the terms established in the negotiated agreement
