General Statement of Job

Under limited supervision, articulates and operationalizes the district's vision for the Early Childhood Program. Directs the implementation of the Early Childhood Program initiatives and curriculum and instructional practices for the district. Reports to the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Develops and implements short- and long-range plans to meet the goals and objectives of the Early Childhood program.

Directs the development, selection, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive curricular and instructional plan which correlates with state and national standards for prekindergarten through second grade.

Provides direction to the implementation of the district's strategic plan as it relates to Early Childhood Education. Researches and communicates innovative and exemplary practices for improving curricula and instruction to increase the readiness of students as they progress from prekindergarten through second grade.

Directs, guides and evaluates the work of the Early Childhood department staff.

Designs a process for the collection, organization, and analysis of student assessment data for prekindergarten through second grade.

Provides assistance to teachers and administrators in implementing the goals and objectives of Early Childhood initiatives.

Reviews, implements and supervises procedures for identification/screening for early childhood programs.
Ensures the proper selection of students for the early childhood programs.

Serves as a liaison with the district, principals and the State Department of Education in the area of Early Childhood Education.

Works cooperatively with Curriculum and Instruction, Title I, Special Education, the Center for Educator Quality, and other departments as appropriate in the planning and implementation of comprehensive professional development for teachers, administrators and instructional assistants.

Plans and directs the expansion of the early childhood program.

Assists with identifying and ordering appropriate furniture and instructional materials to ensure a quality learning environment for the Prekindergarten and Kindergarten programs.

Keeps abreast of developments and innovations in the area of Early Childhood Education.

Conducts workshops and classes for parents, teachers, administrators and staff.

Collaborates with state and community agencies in the area of Early Childhood Education to meet the needs of students.
Serves on committees and task forces as appropriate.

Maintains accurate records as required by district, state, and federal laws and policies.

Develops and monitors the Early Childhood budget, adhering to state and district financial regulations.
Ensures the implementation of initiatives to improve the quality of early childhood classrooms including national and/or state accreditations (i.e. NAEYC, CDEPP).

Additional Duties:
Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Education and Training

Requires a Master's degree in education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education preferred. Applicant must have an Educational Administration Certificate supplemented by eight to ten years of supervisory experience in an early childhood or elementary school setting. Extensive knowledge of human growth and development, English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Early Childhood curriculum and instruction is needed. Proven experience in the ability to organize, collaborate, and supervise staff. Must successfully complete training as required and possess valid certification.
