Salary: $45,000-$55,000

Primary Purpose:

The Assistant Director of Child Nutrition is responsible planning, coordinating and providing leadership for the Child Nutrition program, supervises the implementation of child nutrition dietary guidelines as directed by Texas Department of Agriculture and federal regulations and assisting in ensuring that the Child Nutrition programs meet regulatory and nutritional requirements for students, promotes development of sound nutritional practices and maintains a safe and sanitary environment.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Food Service Management, Nutrition or related field recommended
  • Clear and valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the technology used to capture and analyze data
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze productivity measures to evaluate customer service satisfaction and adjust standard menu offerings accordingly
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of the food service industry
  • Demonstrate knowledge of nutrition, menu planning, nutrient analysis, and food based menus
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively with all levels of management throughout the district
  • Demonstrated understanding of governmental requirements and ability to ensure department personnel understand their roles in complying with government regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to emphasize the importance of customer service to department personnel
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, management and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
Experience:
  • A minimum of (5) five years in a school food service operations and experience as assistant director in multi-unit operation, preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Review and accurately process free and reduced applications.
  • Reconcile statements and other expenditures.
  • Review and approve timesheets.
  • Responsible for weekly reporting.
  • Responsible for annual Verification.
  • Conduct annual internal audit of site visits to ensure compliance.
  • Order weekly Commodities.
  • Complete monthly Direct Certification through txunps.
  • Monitor the success of promotional campaigns through personal observation and direct input from cafeteria managers.
  • Oversee the automated and standardized collection of data related to participation, customer satisfaction and equipment performance.
  • Periodically review that activities and paperwork requirements of department cafeteria managers, and adjust requirements as appropriate.
  • Routinely visit district cafeterias to evaluate the quality of food and services.
  • Foster an environment in which open communications and feedback from principals and employees is encouraged and valued.
  • Stay abreast of best practices, laws, regulations, policies and emerging technologies related to school food service operations, and communicate to appropriate department personnel.
  • May serve as administrator in charge during the Executive Director's absence.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.

  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, ability to be flexible when asked to perform numerous tasks simultaneously, perform under deadlines and work in a calm, sensible and efficient manner
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and communicate effectively
  • Computer expertise in POS and applications software, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs and more
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
  • Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them

Interrelations:
  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of ILTexas and is appropriate for their position

Supervise assigned staff.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: Available to work 5 days per week 8 hours daily
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
