The Maryland State Department of Education is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Assistant State Superintendent for the Division Assessment, Accountability, and Information Technology. This position reports directly to the Deputy State Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and is responsible for the direction and oversight of the State’s student assessment and school accountability programs. 

Provides leadership for evaluation, and statistics related to the development of Maryland’s student testing programs; manages the data collection, analysis, and reporting of local school system data; oversees Information Technology services for MSDE; provides executive direction and leadership for the informational technology branch and for the transition to the Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA), new assessments in social studies and the continual implementation Partnership for Assessment for Readiness of College and Career (PARCC) assessment; establishes procedures and priorities for developing and coordinating research/evaluation strategies as they pertain to standards, assessment, and accountability; utilizes technology to enhance evaluation efforts, facilitate group processes and evaluate models to support/sustain high achievement.

Requirements:

EDUCATION: Applicants should possess a Master’s Degree or 36 hours of post Baccalaureate coursework in Education. Doctoral degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Extensive experience in educational supervision and management in the areas of, school performance, program assessment, and school accountability.

This role requires strong organizational leadership skills in order to realign the work processes, facilitate collaboration and planning, and build a cohesive team. Extensive experience with an emphasis in research design, evaluation/assessment, and statistical analysis desirable, management of large-scale assessment/evaluation contracts and projects, experience working in a state or district office of educational accountability preferred.
