Boston Preparatory Charter Public School (Boston Prep) is a free, public school, offering a rigorous curriculum to 464 students and 224 alumni, the majority coming from Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. Boston Prep has recently moved into a state of the art facility and we are continuing to expand our space, as we grow from 464 to 700 students over the next five years. We operate as an integrated middle school, high school, and alumni support model. At the root of our programming is a belief that all students can succeed in a four-year college.

Mission: Boston Prep prepares students to succeed in a four-year college and embody, in thought and action, lifelong ethical growth. We foster an environment structured around scholarship and personal growth that cultivates students' virtues of courage, compassion, integrity, perseverance, and respect.

To achieve our ambitious goals, our approach includes six essentials that we believe leads to our success: we have an exceptional adult team, we hold high expectation for students, we foster ethical growth, we have an invested, passionate student culture, we offer a range of supports, and we ensure college persistence through a number of alumni supports. Currently, 83% of our graduates are persisting in college, 100% of our students have been accepted to four-year colleges, and 98% of our alumni have matriculated to college the semester after graduating from Boston Prep.

We believe that exceptional student gains are the direct result of excellent teaching and programming and acknowledge the importance of students' college readiness skills in achieving our mission. We are a mission-driven adult team committed to refining and improving our practice such that our students can chart the life course they aspire to. We hope you will consider applying.

About the Role:
Boston Prep seeks to hire a High School Principal. The High School Principal plays an active role on the Leadership Team, maintaining involvement in the school's strategic plan. The high school principal reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and serves as the high school's cultural leader. The principal collaborates across stakeholders to develop, lead, and make improvements to a strong school level culture that results in the success and growth of all students academically and ethically. The principal works to systematically build a positive school climate, by recognizing student achievement in consistent and inspiring ways and has a relentless commitment to preparing every student for a four-year college. The high school principal will do this by:

  • living into the school's core virtues of courage, compassion, integrity, perseverance, and respect;
  • building a positive, determined team, that makes and learns from mistakes, is candid, and works hard and seeks greater efficiency;
  • having the ability to be a bold, tireless, and engaging change agent and culture-creator;
  • embodying the passion for academic learning and insistence on academic excellence and rigor at all times;
  • exhibiting exceptional self-motivation, entrepreneurial spirit and team orientation;
  • analyzing and solving problems with a combination of confidence and humility; and
  • demonstrating effective and clear communication skills, both oral and written.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead through student level planning: The principal facilitates initiatives to support academic achievement and ethical growth; and works across teams to create specific plans for students in accordance with a tiered system of support across grade levels, health and counseling, and advisory programming. The principal builds and develops strong relationships with parents and family members by facilitating regular communication and programming; this home-school partnership is critical to student success.
  • Establish routines to support excellence across culture: The principal collaborates to create the vision for routines and practices that promote excellence both inside and outside of classrooms. The principal then ensures these routines and practices are executed with fidelity. The principal collaborates to ensure the Code of Conduct is clear and consistently followed.
  • Lead through improvement processes: The principal works to improve and enhance existing programs, determine when, where, why, and how to differentiate existing offerings while introducing new ones. The principal creates a model for rapid improvement of outcomes by developing and executing a short and long term strategy to reach academic, ethical, and cultural goals, utilizing data, professional development and other tools to empower teachers and promote high levels of achievement for all students.
  • Foster teacher development and retention to enhance student success: The principal collaborates with the CAO and Department Chairs to provide feedback and support to faculty to become impactful educators and effective drivers of students' outcomes.
