  • SPEECH PATHOLOGIST II
    $3,774.00 - $4,413.00 per month (SR-18, 10-month)

    A Shortage Differential ranging from $77.00 to $107.00 per month and a School Year Differential ranging from $101.59 to $118.81 per month will be added to the base salary, contingent upon funding.

    SPEECH PATHOLOGIST III
    $4,079.00 - $4,777.00 per month (SR-20, 10-month)

    A Shortage Differential ranging from $94.00 to $139.00 per month and a School Year Differential ranging from $109.81 to $128.61 per month will be added to the base salary, contingent upon funding.

    SPEECH PATHOLOGIST IV
    $4,413.00 - $5,167.00 per month (SR-22, 10-month)

    A Shortage Differential ranging from $127.00 to $172.00 per month and a School Year Differential ranging from $118.81 to $139.11 per month will be added to the base salary, contingent upon funding.
  • NOTE: Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations. All new external applicants will be placed on the initial step of the salary range. However, placement above the initial step of the salary range will be based on special characteristics and critical needs of the position, an applicant's exceptional qualifications, the availability of funds, and other relevant factors. Such appointments require prior approval.
  • Location:
    Honolulu District, Oahu
  • NOTE: Temporary positions may be extended year to year, dependent upon funding and departmental needs. Making yourself eligible for temporary positions increases your employment possibilities and may lead to permanent opportunities.

    A person hired for a temporary position may also become a temporary employee upon satisfactory completion of the initial probation period of at least six months. Once a temporary employee, you would be eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits as afforded to an employee in a permanent position, with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.
  • Level II:
    Under immediate supervision, evaluates and treats a variety of speech-language disorders, conducts tests; and performs other duties as assigned.

    Level III:
    Under general supervision, conducts evaluations and plans for and administers treatment programs pertaining to all varieties of speech-language disorders; assists higher level speech pathologists in planning and developing overall programs; and performs other related duties as assigned.

    Level IV:
    Participates in and is responsible for a major content area of the speech-language program, involving planning, organizing, coordinating and assisting in the conduct of such a program; or as a highly independent and competent worker, provides diagnostic evaluation and/or therapeutic services in the area of speech-language under the general supervision of a non-technical supervisor; and performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Note: Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.

    To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
  • Education Requirement:
    Applicants for all levels must possess a master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in speech pathology as described in Chapter 468E of the Hawaii Revised Statutes.

    NOTE: If you will graduate within six months of application from an accredited university and will meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements upon your graduation, you must provide a letter attesting to such from your department chair or university, along with your most current transcripts. Final transcripts showing receipt of the degree must be submitted upon graduation.

    Experience Requirement:
    Level II: Applicants must have met all the requirements necessary for eligibility in the clinical fellowship year program of the American Speech and Hearing Association as specified in the Rules of the Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology of the State of Hawaii.

    Level III: Completion of all licensing requirements specified in the Rules of the Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology of the State of Hawaii to practice as a Speech Pathologist.

    Level IV: One (1) year of professional experience that dealt with the detection, prevention or the application of remedies for the alleviation or treatment of speech-language disorders, or teaching speech pathology at the graduate level in an accredited university. This experience must have comparable to the III level in State government service.

    Substitution Allowed:
    Possession of a Ph.D. degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of Speech Pathology experience comparable to the III level in State government service.
  • American Sign Language Requirement:
    This position requires that applicants possess the ability to proficiently use American Sign Language (ASL), on a daily basis. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be given employment consideration.
