SUMMARY

The Resident Researcher will support the Policy Unit in qualitative and quantitative research and analysis to help New Visions understand and answer key questions in the development of education policies and programmatic initiatives. The Resident Researcher position is a one-year, part-time position (15-21 hours per week). The position is particularly well-suited to graduate students working towards a Masters or Ph.D.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Resident Researcher will complete both short- and long-term research requests, which may include:
  • Best practice analysis in educator preparation and professional development, curriculum, assessment, and school improvement
  • Synthesizing scholarly articles into extensive literature reviews to inform New Visions programmatic design
  • Research on information and data supporting the development of grant proposals
  • Research support in high priority innovation projects aligned to New Visions long-term missions
  • Development and use of Google-based systems and tools for program and project management
In addition, the Resident Researcher will be involved in
  • The creation of reports and presentations for an internal audience
  • Facilitation of meetings or professional development sessions with New Visions staff


Required Education and Experience
  • B.A. and some Masters-level courses required; currently enrolled graduate degree students are encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in education policy, public policy, and/or social science research within a comparable setting
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze both quantitative and qualitative research
  • Ability to unpack and frame information and data into key patterns/ideas
  • Initiative and proven ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Advanced PC skills (including Excel, PowerPoint, and internet research skills; experience with Google tools and sites preferred)
  • Knowledge of and strong interest in public education essential; knowledge of public education system in NYC preferred
