Farmington Public Schools has an opening for an Upper Elementary (Grades 5-6) School Nurse (full time). The preferred candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse (mandatory)
  • Connecticut Nursing License (mandatory)
  • BS in Nursing or related field preferred
  • Two years (2) of pediatric, public health or med/surg experience

We are looking for a proactive health leader who will develop strong relationships between parents,

the administrative, teaching, health education and physical education staff to actively improve the

quality of student health in the Farmington Schools.

Computer data base skills are a definite asset in moving toward a proactive total health program for

children through the collection, analysis and utilization of health and educational information.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The school nurse implements Board of Education policy and regulations related to health. This position is responsible for instructing and assisting students in maintaining good physical, mental, and social health. The school nurse acts as liaison between students, parents, administrators, faculty, and staff members regarding matters of health and/or health education. There is a cooperative working relationship and ethical attitude toward fellow nurses, teachers and staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Assessment of Students
1. Uses a variety of assessment techniques/instruments for diagnostic purposes to determine health evaluation.
2. Maintains an ongoing awareness of students' health and progress.
3. Assists students in the evaluation of their own growth and development.
4. Maintains records of health and medications and submits requested reports within a designated time limit.
5. Assesses individual health and encourages individuals to seek medical attention when necessary.
B. Performing Related Responsibilities
1. Administers to sick students and staff members and practices routine first aid procedures.
2. Prepares for the annual screening of kindergarten students.
3. Maintains, updates health records and their confidentiality.
4. Administers prescribed medications.
5. Accepts students' personal health problems and/or handicaps with consideration, understanding, and professionalism and assists students in dealing with these problems.
6. Instructs students in subjects related to health and personal hygiene.
7. Performs vision tests, postural screening and audiometric testing.
8. Assists in PPT meetings.
9. Administers flu shots to school personnel.
10. Performs related duties as assigned.
11. Consults with teachers regarding student health improvements.
12. Completes accident insurance reports and does required follow-up.
13. Encourages wellness of student and staff.

C. Professional Development

1. Accepts responsibility for personal professional development and growth.
2. Uses published materials pertinent to the profession to keep abreast of new techniques and procedures.
3. Participates in organizations and/or conferences supportive to nursing and instructional responsibilities
4. Seeks to find better methods of nursing through study, sharing of ideas with fellow nurses, supervisory help, and/or constant evaluation of nursing results.

WORK SCHEDULE: One hundred eighty (180) school days and two (2) preparatory days prior to the official opening day of school.

Nurse : seven(7) hours per day

SALARY: $48,133.29 -$57,221.37 depending upon experience plus $1,500 additional stipend for Bachelor's degree. Please submit a resume and two reference letters in addition to your online application.
