Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced custodian or contractor to be the Building Manager for our brand new school facility in Vallejo! This role will be responsible for managing the custodial staff, facilities projects, plumbing, safety, security, and coordination of facilities usage. This person will ensure a safe, secure, and comfortable environment conducive to student learning.
The Building Manager will be directly supervised by the School Site Operations Lead and will interact with and supervise the work of our custodial staff.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, and supervise duties of custodial staff, including the review and evaluation of work assignments such as daily cleaning of classrooms and office spaces, cleaning of dining area before, during, and after eating periods, and emergency cleanups for completion and compliance.
  • Assist in or coordinate preventive maintenance including the overall planning and decision-making for maintaining the safety, utility, and appearance of the facility.
  • Prepare work orders and/or coordinate and supervise the work of outside contractors and vendors for crafts, such as carpentry, plumbing, heating, ventilating, electrical, air conditioning, auto mechanic, and inspect for completion of assignment.
  • Manage the HVAC Energy Management System, lighting, and door closure schedules.
  • Order custodial and grounds supplies and equipment, manages appropriate levels of storage inventory and distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Act as liaison to security, burglar, fire alarm service, pest control service, and other providers.
  • Perform and coordinate the usage of facilities by School personnel/groups and organizations within the community; set-ups, teardowns, clean-up, and staff scheduling.
  • Maintain a building keying system and master keying record of all keys issued to and retrieved from employees.
  • Identify major security, safety hazards, and major repair needs. Submit requests for deferred maintenance projects to Principal and School Site Operations Manager for capital improvements and tenant improvement projects.
  • Support Principal and Office Manager in budget management for facilities projects and maintenance.
  • Develop plan for 24-7 coverage relating to building usage, custodial, grounds, maintenance, safety, security, and emergencies.
  • Maintain inspection records, permits, construction documents, and internal facility audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned with enthusiasm and commitment.
Qualifications
Experience:
  • Minnimum 3 years experience in building maintenance and custodial work required.
  • Experience in a school environment a strong positive.
 
Skills:
  • Effective verbal and written communication with the ability to interact appropriately with children of different ages.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, equipment, and supplies used in facility maintenance and safety regulations including preventive maintenance.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and supervision.
  • Preferred working knowledge of playground safety and DSA requirements.
