Job Summary:
The Educational Associate (Chemistry Curriculum Writer) will write updated Chemistry curriculum and assessments that utilizes local datasets and meets NGSS performance expectations for earth science and chemistry. They will ensure the overall consistency and quality of the Chemistry curriculum by teaching one section of Chemistry at a City School, updating the curriculum, and providing related educational services for Chemistry teachers. The Educational Associate will function as an educational professional with a focus on development, and ensuring the implementation and delivery of relevant academic programs in schools. This position is funded by a 2-year grant. The position will end on June 30, 2019.

Essential Functions:
• Writes phenomena-based chemistry curriculum and associated assessments with integrated earth science.
• Serves as teacher of record for a single section of a Chemistry class; collects implementation data, and adjusts the curriculum accordingly.
• Makes school site visits to support implementation of the Chemistry curriculum and collected data.
• Plans and implements professional development for Chemistry teachers.
• Utilizes local data sets, authentic investigations, and a variety of instructional materials, including multimedia and computer Technology, to enhance learning.
• Maintains records and ensures compliance with grant requirements.
• Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate. Non-Maryland applicants should possess equivalent teaching/professional certification.
• Three years of Chemistry teaching experience; urban experience preferred
• Valid Chemistry certification.
• Experience in Earth Science preferred.
• Knowledge of effective student, school, and district assessment tools.
• Strong organization and strategic planning skills; ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
• Experience managing large scale projects.
• Knowledge of current research in science education and best practices.
• Knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards.
• A commitment to educational equity.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Office and online learning management systems.
• Ability to facilitate positive communication and coordination of program activities with teachers, administrators, and staff.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare reports.
• Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules and policies affecting City Schools' educators.
