+ Stipend of $7,500.00

Terms of Employment:

11 months/ 197 days per year. Salary is at Administrative Program Job Group 4 on the SAISD Compensation Plan on a term or probationary contract, as applicable. Annual salary range is $52,819.64 - $64,594.33 based upon directly related experience with an additional stipend of $7,500.00 for Implementation Specialist duties.

Primary Purpose:

To provide on-site coaching and job-embedded professional development by collaborating with teachers and modeling best instructional practices for English Learners (ELs). Coaching and job-embedded professional development will address teacher content-area knowledge and build teacher capacity in the areas of Sheltered Instruction, Biliteracy, Dual Language and ESL to meet the cognitive, affective and linguistic needs of ELs. The Bilingual/ESL Implementation Specialists will train/coach/develop campus teaching staff in best practices for delivering rigorous, aligned and targeted instruction and analyze student data (TELPAS, MAP, STAAR, WMLS, etc.) to measure student progress, inform instruction, and create targeted interventions for English Learners.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university (Master's Degree preferred)

Valid Texas Teacher Certification

Valid Bilingual Education Certification and/or ESL Supplemental Certification

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the applicant

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Experience in coaching teachers in concepts such as student engagement levels, lesson design, authentic learning, and self-directed learning

Understanding of the TEKS and ELPS and have demonstrated ability to design effective lessons and assessments that directly align with the standards

Deep knowledge of second language acquisition theory, pedagogy, and practice

Experience in cross-curricular and integrated approaches in curriculum and instruction and facilitation of integrated learning models

Knowledge of state and federal guidelines for Bilingual/ESL programs

Experience with yearly LPAC procedures and monitoring EL student progress

Experience in implementing effective instructional strategies for English Learners.

Demonstrated experience in effective design and implementation of differentiated instruction

Experience designing and facilitating relevant Professional Development/Learning sessions to a variety of audiences, such as administrators, teachers, and community partners

Experience with educational technology and 21stCentury skills

Demonstrated success in English Learner student achievement as measured by analysis of assessment results

Demonstrated success in the pedagogical implementation of the 4 C's skills: Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity

Knowledge in a specific content (math, science, social studies, language arts) and/or specialty curriculum, including assessment and instruction

Demonstrated collaborative skills for creating and adding value in a high stakes fast paced environment

Detail oriented and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

Excellent written and oral communication skills (bilingual in Spanish preferred)

Oral and written proficiency in Spanish required for candidates seeking elementary Implementation Specialist position

Demonstrated proficiency with technology (i.e., Power Point, Word, Excel) and district data management systems

Experience:

Five (5) years teaching, or

Two (2) years teaching andthree (3) years coaching teachers and

With evaluation and analysis of assessment and accountability data

Working with special populations such as EL, Special Education, and gifted learners

In participating in campus/department committees

In an urban school environment with diverse student populations

Developing and providing professional development for adult learners

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Assist schools in curriculum implementation and alignment to TEKS/SEs, ELPS and academic needs assessments for Bilingual/ESL students (and program evaluations)

Support teachers across multiple disciplines to promote an integrated/cross-curricular design that promotes student engagement, personalized learning, and a collaborative approach to teaching and learning.

Provide instructional leadership and support to teachers, and administrators

Provide teachers support in planning biliteracy lessons in late-exit and dual language programs

Participate in instructional planning sessions with campus curriculum specialists, and /or grade-level subject teachers to provide English Learners with instructional support as needed

Collaborate with teachers to design and plan instructional lessons that include the required accommodations and address the linguistic needs of English Learners

Assist Campus LPAC coordinator and teachers with compliance duties, trainings and documentation and disseminate EL student data to campus stakeholders

Collaborate with campus staff to ensure EL students receive program services

Collaborate with Bilingual/ESL department coordinators in the development of professional learning surrounding English Learners and second language acquisition

Assist campuses with data analysis and the development of action plans in response to the data (TELPAS, WMLS, MAP and STAAR)

Utilize technology to assist with individual coaching sessions

Model effective teaching within the classroom; provide support through co-planning and co-teaching

Develop coaching plans for a continuum of service

Conduct professional development specific to the needs of English Learners for groups of campuses

Assist teachers with selecting and modifying instructional materials to ensure alignment with TEKS/SEs, ELPS and to address individual student language proficiency levels and academic needs effectively

Conduct demonstration lessons

Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback

Participate in campus walks with campus leadership teams, district team members and Bilingual/ESL department coordinators

Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and district policies, rules and regulations for EL students

Disseminate information on current trends and research in curriculum and instruction, urban education and second language acquisition

Encourage teacher participation in workshops and conferences

Demonstrate a collaborative approach to community and family partnerships

Provide direct student support through a push-in or pull-out instructional model.
