Unit Job Summary: History teachers develop and execute lesson engaging lesson plans creating an environment which allows students
to think critically and independently. Candidates should be comfortable teaching with an emphasis on primary
sources, developing analytical research paper skills, and adapting classroom instruction to various learning styles.
Teachers are responsible for developing curriculum, supervising students both in and out of the classroom and
maintaining up-to-date teaching techniques to provide students with a quality educational experience. Teachers
are expected to build deep relationships with students, families, other faculty and staff to foster a culture of
community and maintain strong lines of communication with families about student progress. We are looking for
team members who will emanate optimism, share feedback to solve problems, reflect on how your actions impact
others, take ownership over creating the culture you want to show up to each day, and go above and beyond to
support and collaborate closely with colleagues in the united pursuit of Lab's mission.
The History Department is responsible for the history education of students in grades 9 - 12. The courses taught by
the History Department include African-American, American, Early World, European, Modern World, and World
History, as well as several elective classes. History teachers report to their respective Principals and are responsible
to the History Department Chair. The high school currently supports separate History and English departments and
middle school supports a combined Humanities department. The school is developing more interdisciplinary
programming and is keen to have teachers collaborate and teach across departments and divisions. Demonstrated
interest and ability to do both are strongly preferred.
All teachers are expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining
Agreement and are expected to work the required days as stipulated in that agreement.
Anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/2018.

Education: Bachelor's degree in History or a related field required.
Master's degree in History or a related field preferred.
Coursework or degree that reflects multicultural content preferred.

Experience: A minimum of three years of middle school or high school teaching experience required.
Ability to teach any grade level of History required.
Ability to teach middle school Humanities preferred.
Experience developing curriculum strongly preferred.
Experience working with a wide range of students with diverse backgrounds, such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language and nationality, preferred.

Competencies: Ability to be agile and flexible required.
Ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and parents required.
Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion issues and dynamics in the classroom and in developing healthy, supportive relationships with all students.
