JOB SUMMARY

Teach basic academic and functional life skills to cognitively impaired students, who require modified or adapted work, using special techniques or programs to improve behavior and/or academic achievement by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develop and teach daily instruction in a flexible, inclusive program that meets both the academic and functional needs of students.
Implement behavioral plans, positive reinforcement, and service learning projects.
Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies including learning styles, hands-on, differentiation, and project-based experiences.
Work collaboratively and effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Utilize differential instructional strategies in all subject areas.
Seek and utilize community resources.
Analyze and evaluate student data to address specific learning needs.
Document ongoing skill development and use this data to adjust instruction.
Collaborate with school counselors, school psychologists, instructional coaches and staff.
Attend professional meetings, write reports, and maintain records.
Conduct case conferences to address the academic, social, and emotional progress for compliance with school district, state and federal guidelines.
Monitor and document progress on annual goals for each student every grading period.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Special Education (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university.
At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience with cognitively impaired students.

Valid Indiana Elementary Teacher's License(s): Mild Interventions, Mild Disabilities or equivalent of Mildly Mentally Handicapped/Cognitively Impaired.
