Stevenson High School has become one of the leading high schools in America. The Fine Arts Division has a long tradition of excellence and has been recognized for its high standards and amazing accomplishments at a regional, state, and national level. The division is regarded as one of the most exemplary high school arts programs in the country by some of the most prominent colleges, universities, and professional organizations. In 2010 Stevenson was one of five schools in the country to receive the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts National Schools of Distinction in Arts Education Award.

The Theatre Department maintains a well-balanced education that focuses equally on the process of learning as well as the product of our efforts. Students experience a robust curricular sequence that offers both breadth and depth. Theatre Courses include Acting 1, 2, 3, 4, Theatre Design + StageCraft, Accelerated Advanced Acting, Directing, Musical Theatre, Theatre Leadership, and Theatre Arts Summer School. Stevenson also maintains an extensive co-curricular Theatre program to supplement our curricular offerings. We offer five main stage productions a year that includes the Fall Play, Musical, Frosh/Soph Play, Winter Play, and One Acts. There are also numerous Theatre Clubs and Organizations that students can get involved in. This includes International Thespian Society, StageCrafters, Improv Club, and TBA Playwright Club. We also have a Theatre Parents Organization (TPO) that supports our program. Over the years, the Theatre Department was chosen to go to the Fringe, a colleague was nominated as one of the Directing Finalists, and numerous students are recognized annually for their achievements.

Stevenson High School's students and staff are extremely fortunate to have the unyielding support of the school and community in creating and providing state of the art facilities for its students, especially as it pertains to Fine Arts. We are proud of our unique performing arts center, renowned for its turntable design allowing great versatility in its ability to transform from a 1,200-seat concert hall to three separate spaces which include a 250-seat recital hall, a 250-seat little theatre and a main stage of nearly 700. In addition, we are fortunate to have a 400-seat auditorium and a 100-seat studio theatre / flexible "black box" space.

Essential Qualities:
The ideal candidate for this position would have an established record of success in leading a high school theatre program, and possess the following traits: excellent pedagogical skills reflecting significant teaching experience that addresses the artistic and technical processes of theatre, theatre design, and stagecraft; familiarity with the IL State Theatre Standards, effective assessment practices and knowledge of Standards Based Grading, positive and collaborative working style with students, colleagues, administration and parents; excellent communication skills; excellent organizational skills, with proficiency in technology related to instruction, record­keeping and communication, in an all Macintosh campus environment; ability to be a curricular team leader whom teaches a variety of theatre courses that may have performance components; direct 2-3 co-curricular productions each year, experience planning travel; embraces the Stevenson cultural norm which values continuous reflection and improvement of programs and teaching and learning.

Qualifications:
Qualified applicants will hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator's License with Theatre/Drama endorsement required. Masters in content area is preferred.
