POSITION DESCRIPTION The Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School (BuffSci) is seeking reliable, punctual, high-energy individuals who love educating youth to make a difference by joining our outstanding team of educators as Middle School Support Teachers. BuffSci needs talented, positive, honest candidates to support our school culture and model strong leadership skills while facilitating classroom lessons and activities for students in 5th through 8th grade. Our school seeks individuals who are outstanding communicators, demonstrate great organizational skills and who will maintain a high level of energy while supporting and assisting our classroom teachers during the school day.

Support Teacher responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching assigned classes;
  • Attending weekly collaboration meetings;
  • Supervising advisory classes as assigned;
  • Monitoring student activity and behavior;
  • Mentoring and monitoring students in clubs and activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provides supervision for students in the absence of their classroom teacher
  2. Assists the classroom teacher to promote maximum student intellectual and physical development
  3. Assists the teacher during instructional time to facilitate student opportunity to learn
  4. Communicates frequently with learners regarding their academic and social learning
  5. Provides assistance for instructional services to guide and direct student academic and social development
  6. Assists in the monitoring of student progress
  7. Communicates with the classroom teacher relative to the academic, physical, and social developments of students
  8. Participate in all staff and department meetings as assigned
  9. Participate in professional development opportunities as assigned
  10. Supervises students upon their arrival in the morning and dismissal in the afternoon
  11. Fulfills non-instructional duties as assigned by the Supervisors


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree
  • Evidence of strong communication, problem solving, and human relations skills
  • Evidence of the ability to effectively work with students, parents, colleagues and administrators from a diverse community
  • Technology Literacy in any areas as listed below a plus
RELATED QULAIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in related content area(s) preferred
  • NYS Teaching Certification in any area(s) as listed preferred
  • Experience in classroom teaching preferred
