Qualifications:
  • Must hold an appropriate CT State Teacher Certification.
  • Must hold a CT intermediate administrator certification (092) and had at least two years in a leadership position under that certification.

General Description:

Department leaders are primarily teachers with additional leadership responsibilities. This position provides effective supervision, instructional support, and feedback to teachers in the Library, Media, and Technology Department. The Department Leader monitors curriculum and assessment implementation in the classroom and leads analysis of data in the discipline. Under the direction of district and school administrators, the Department Leader works with the entire district leadership team to plan and provide professional learning experiences that are responsive to teacher needs and focused on school and district goals and priorities. Department Leaders also provide budgeting and scheduling information to the principals and participate in hiring/induction of new teachers. The Department Leader in Library, Media, and Technology is responsible for evaluating, promoting and using existing and emerging resources and technologies to support teaching and learning, connect the school with the global learning community, communicate with students and teachers, providing equitable access to library services. The Department Leader must possess a strong vision for the role of Library, Media, and Technology in a dynamic K-12 environment.

Salary:

Teacher salary plus Department Leader stipend which requires 5 additional work days beyond the teacher's contract. This is an appointed position, renewed annually. The salary range is $46,625 - $99,539 dependent on education and experience, plus the $10,272 Department Leader stipend.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Department Leaders supervises and assists in the evaluation of Library Media Specialists and Technology Integration Specialists at the K-12 level.

Evaluation:

The Department Leader is evaluated by the High School Principal in consultation with the Director of Curriculum and Director of Technology

MISSION, VISION, GOALS
  • preparing, justifying and administering the library media program budget to support

specific program and district goals
  • establishing processes and procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation,

resource sharing, etc. that assure appropriate resources are available when needed

TEACHING AND LEARNING
  • Work with the department members to encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and improve learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers and students to design and teach engaging inquiry and

learning experiences and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies and foster

critical thinking
  • Participate in the implementation of collaboratively planned learning experiences

by providing group and individual instruction, assessing student progress and evaluating

activities

ASSESSMENT
  • Encourage and advocate for the appropriate use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning, providing 24/7 access to digital information resources for the entire learning community.
  • Collect and analyze data to improve instruction and to demonstrate correlations between the Library Media and Technology Program and student achievement.


COLLABORATION
  • Benchmark the Library Media and Technology Program to school, state, and national program standards in collaboration with district Library Media and Technology Integration faculty.
  • Participate in the curriculum development process at both the building and district

level to ensure that the curricula include the full range of literacy skills (information,

media, visual, digital and technological literacy) necessary to meet content

standards and to develop lifelong learners
  • Share expertise by presenting at faculty, parent and school board meetings


PROFESSIONALISM
  • Advocate for the library media and technology program in support district improvement plan and provides the knowledge, vision, and leadership to steer it creatively and energetically into the future.
  • Manage departmental staff and budgets in cooperation with district administration.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate the program to ensure its quality both at a general level and on a day to day basis
