TUTORS NEEDED FOR THE ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION (AVID) PROGRAM at GREENWICH PUBLIC SCHOOLS
POSITION SUMMARY
Goals: AVID tutors will guide students toward academic and personal excellence that will reach far beyond their secondary school years. They will be active participants in helping students become college-ready.
About AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a national college readiness system that targets students in the academic middle who have great academic potential. AVID delivers a demanding college-preparatory curriculum and facilitates student involvement in extracurricular activities. AVID'S goal is for students to enroll and be successful in rigorous four-year postsecondary institutions and become educated and responsible leaders.
General Duties: AVID tutors will support middle school school students enrolled in AVID elective courses by providing direct instructional support to students with the assistance of an AVID elective course teacher (Tutors will work a minimum of 2 - 2.50 hours, 2 days per week.) Tutors will work through mid-June 2017. AVID tutors are critically essential to student success in the AVID elective courses and beyond!

Responsibilities of the AVID tutor:
- Facilitates learning and provides academic support for students in rigorous courses
- Assists in teaching study skills necessary for college preparation;
- Responds to student work with helpful verbal and written comments;
- Serves as role model/mentor to and maintains rapport with AVID students
- Communicates regularly with the AVID site coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern; confers with the teacher about tutorial plans
- Sets an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students
- Participates in all relevant tutorology trainings/meetings
- Bachelor's degree OR evidence of earned college credit in the field of education; OR successful enrollment in an undergraduate program;
- Passionate belief in the ability of all students to graduate college-ready;
- Effective communication skills and demonstrated responsibility/reliability
