POSITION SUMMARY:
The School Transition Specialist leads the Office of Early Learning's school transition work. As part of this work, the Transition Specialist builds relationships with early learning providers and families across the district, facilitates communication between providers and elementary schools, and works to build culture of collaboration from birth through elementary school. In addition to facilitating relationship-building across providers, the Specialist will work with school and cluster teams to provide robust and meaningful transition activities. This position reports to the Director of Early Learning and is grant-funded.

- Four years of additional experience in community organizing, field experience, family engagement or similar (in lieu of degree)

In addition to facilitating relationship-building across providers, the Specialist will work with school and cluster teams to provide robust and meaningful transition activities. This position reports to the Director of Early Learning and is grant-funded.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Communicates the vision of the Early Learning Program to all stakeholders
- Assists with the implementation of early learning initiatives related to school transition
- Establishes a coherent, collaborative system for school transition initiatives
- Assists with the development and implementation of long and short-term strategic initiatives
- Works collaboratively with community partners to achieve the goal of building collaborative relationships between early learning providers and elementary schools
- Communicates with schools and appropriate agencies and ensure adherence to necessary guidelines
- Coordinates Pre-K transition activities for the district
- Supports coordination of services and articulation between the early learning and elementary levels of the instructional program
- Supports the transition of students entering Kindergarten from community-based early learning programs
- Collects and supports analysis of data regarding the transition of students and other pertinent information affecting the design and implementation of services and programs, using the information to recommend new programs and modifications in existing programs
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including families, community providers, partners, teachers, leaders, and others
- Assists with the preparation of statistical and narrative reports to ensure reporting requirements are met for governmental and philanthropic agencies
- Keeps abreast of current research, theory, and trends, and provide leadership in areas as appropriate to the district's needs
- Models and requires the use of leadership practices that promote high-performance, ethical behavior, collegiality, collaboration, and fairness
- Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administer
- Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandated
- Understanding of principals and importance of effective transition from early learning into elementary school
- Ability to quickly form trusting and respectful relationships within and outside the organization
- Ability to create and execute events and project plans
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
- Experience with school district organization, operations, policies, and procedures; the ability to read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Ability and skills in the operation of a computer and related software
- Knowledge and ability supporting site-based administrators and staff; ability to liaise with other early learning providers, agencies, and organizations
- Ability to prepare comprehensive narrative and reports
- Ability to work with diverse communities and school groups
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; prepare and deliver oral presentations
- Ability to analyze situations accurately, and adopt an effective course of action
