EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY

An Invitation to Apply or Refer a Candidate for the Position of

Superintendent of Schools

Bolton, Connecticut

The Bolton Board of Education seeks dynamic and effective leaders as candidates for its Superintendent of Schools position.

About the Bolton Schools

The Bolton Public School District educates approximately 680 students across two schools, including 210 students at Bolton High School (BHS, grades 9-12), a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, and 470 at Bolton Center School (BCS, grades K-8). The close proximity of the schools and the small size of the district empower students, staff and parents to know and be known as members of the school community. Parents are invested in their children’s education, running parent-supported organizations at each school and taking pride in the district’s excellent programs, teachers and staff. The district participates in the Regional Open Choice Program, and BHS welcomes students from Columbia.

Small but mighty, the Bolton Public Schools offer an extensive menu of extracurricular activities, both academic and recreational. The entire staff is committed to establishing a school environment that commissions students to flourish and to grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially.  The athletic programs in particular provide physical and mental fitness as well as the skills and value of teamwork.  Notably, the BHS Boys Cross Country team achieved State Champion or Runner-Up 10 times in the past 15 years, and recently went undefeated in the 2024 NCCC league Championship.

A seven-member Board of Education oversees the district, whose mission is to inspire all students to grow as learners, individuals, and citizens. Every five years the Board, in partnership with the Superintendent, develops a new Strategic Plan. Recent goals have focused on student success, fostering a caring culture, developing high-quality staff and being responsible stewards of the public’s investment in the schools.

About the Bolton Community

Bolton is a small, rural community located in northeastern Connecticut. Approximately 5,000 residents enjoy picturesque landscapes, trailside access to a statewide network of hiking and biking trails, and easy access to I-384. The town’s location between Hartford and UConn (Storrs) gives residents many options for employment, shopping, and entertainment. The community is proud of its agricultural heritage and has committed much of its farmland to preservation status.

Bolton has a Selectmen/Town Meeting form of government. A town administrator oversees day-to-day operations. Bolton’s sense of community is strong and for many is tied to the high quality of our schools. Bolton alumni frequently return to raise families in town and even work in the school system.
